UT was very good in the 80s... fulmer inherited a solid program from majors (stole it from him really).

nick saban won an sec title after going 5-3 in the conference in 2001. david cutcliff didn't even make the sec title game in 2003 after going 7-1. are sec titles mythical too?

luck doesn't magically make Fulmer a better coach than Richt
This is the one thing that some people will just never be able to wrap their brains around.
I made this point on our board last week. I hate to bring it up again, but take the '12 seccg. I'm making a serious point, so flames and lol gifs aren't needed, thanks. Let's say that we complete that last pass to malcolm mitchell and win the sec and play nd. In all likelihood, we beat notre dame. So, when it comes to richt's resume, that one play is the difference between 2 sec titles and 0 nattys and 3 sec titles and 1 natty.
Regardless of the outcome of that one play, would that make richt any different as a coach? If that play had gone different, would he all of a sudden be a better or worse coach? Would he do anything differently in 2014 based on that play? No, he's still the EXACT same coach regardless of what happened.
That is ONE play, taking 5 seconds of game clock, that is the difference between people saying richt underachieves and shoudl have been fired years ago and richt is excellent and the best coach we've ever had and he should be given a 5 year contract extention. Based on one play.
That's simply illogical.

He still recruited the whole roster that he won with, Coker isn't a suitable comparison

i don't disagree with any of that, but i can understand the frustration georgia fans have with him. he seems to always start the season with 2 early losses then finishes the season with a strong squad that can compete with anyone. it's just become a pattern. i actually really like richt. think he is a stand up guy and great person all around. i just think at some point he's going to have to take the next step as a program, much like bianco finally did last night for ole miss' baseball program.

There is a difference really (and they can have difference answers...
- Who has the better resume?
- Who is the better coach?
- Who has the better resume?
- Who is the better coach?

It's a tough call, they are about as equal as two coaches can get as far as accomplishments. One way to look at it is which one would you want coaching your team at their prime? That's a pretty difficult question to answer and I don't think I can answer it

So richt gets the credit for the one play that didn't go his way, but fulmer doesn't get credit because of one play that did go his way?
That's simply illogical.

Eeh, not really. Let's look! Here's what he's done in the first 4 games of the season during his career, record followed by (wins/losses)
01: 3-1 (ark st, ark, @ut/ sc)
02: 4-0 (clemson, @SC, 2 scrubs)
03: 3-1 (clemson, mtsu, sc/ @lsu)
04: 4-0 (gsu, @sc, marshall, lsu)
05: 4-0 (boise, sc, ulm, @msu)
06: 4-0 (wku, @sc, uab, cu)
07: 3-1 (ok st, wcu, @bama / sc)
08: 4-0 (gsu, cmu, @sc, @asu)
09: 3-1 (sc, @ark, asu / @ok st)
10: 1-3 (ull / @sc, ark, @msu)
11: 2-2 (ccu, @om / boise, sc)
12: 4-0 (buff, @mizz, fau, vandy)
13: 3-1 (sc, nt, lsu / @clem)
only twice has he lost 2 out of the gates, one was in his worst season ever and the other we won the following 10 games.

They can be actually.

Did I ever say Richt deserved any "credit" for a play that didn't happen? Sure didn't. Did I ever say fulmer doesn't get credit for a play that happened? Nope, sure didn't.

Right, and it's really not close.

I think the bottom line is you don't want either guy if you ever want to win the big one again.
Fulmer was winning 9 or 10 games a year with Cutcliffe, sometimes 11, occasionally mixing in SEC East "titles" and national contention, but Tennessee was never a serious national title contender. UGA is in the same boat. Richt is never going to get that program a national title. He will get you a lot of Ws and keep you in contention. UGA fans seem fine with that though which is fine.

Agree.
the first one really isn't even up for debate. It's fulmer and since we're talking about black and white numbers it's not really disputable.
As for who's the better coach? That is debatable, and I'd go with Richt. Fulmer did most of his damage beating up on a pretty weak SEC that had only 2 or 3 really good teams every year. Richt is facing a much tougher league. In one year, Richt had to coach against dennis erickson, nick saban, urban meyer, phil fulmer, steve spurrier, and tubs. Fulmer never had to face anything close to that gauntlet.
