No due to physical weakness and slowness.

1. because he doesn't have the measurables or athleticism to even get drafted.
2. He brings too much drama with playing up the gay card. He knew what he was doing trying to play to the sympathy factor to get drafted higher because he couldn't stand on just his physical and stats against weak opponents.
Even after he was drafted, a while later he says that he should have gone in the third round.
quote:
"From last season alone, I should've been in the first three rounds -- SEC Defensive player of the year, All-American," Sam said, listing off his 2013 accomplishments, via the Rams official website. "I should have gone in the top three rounds easily."

That right there rubbed me the wrong way (no pun intended).

No, too many problems associated with it. Also, I just don't think many people like him are actually football fans so it's not like it is helping the brand.

If he could help the Saints win more, then I would.

Hell no, way too soft and I would be too scared he would lay on me too long in a pile up. The first time he stared at me too long in the locker room were fightin!

Sure if I felt he could contribute on ST

Would you have drafted Michael Sam?
If it's my organization, I wouldn't.
Two reasons...
2. He's gay. I don't mean this in the "I'm against gay individuals and gay lifestyle/marriage/etc..." I'm pro gay marriage and don't care what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home.
I mean this in the sense that, if it's my organization, I don't want the potential baggage that comes with this. I don't want to be picketed by gay rights groups like its the grand opening of a new chick-fil-a every time someone thinks he's being mistreated. If he doesn't start a game...it's because he's gay. If he doesn't get enough play time...it's because he's gay. I decide he's not that good and we cut/trade him...it was because he's gay. We don't renegotiate his contract to pay him more...it was because he's gay.
I wouldn't want to risk having my organization exposed to being called bigoted at the drop of a hat.
But aren't you giving a 2-sided answer? You're saying BECAUSE he's gay that you're afraid of ANY possible reaction & therefore saying "no" over an unknown issue that may NOT ever happen.

Nah cuz he's gay. I don't want gay players on my team.

No
1. Not good enough
2. Will be a major distraction
3. When he is cut all hell will break lose and protests will be rampant.

Is there a right answer? Everything comes down to, it depends. Every MBA program teaches that.

Nope.
I'd rather not have Obama breathing down my neck making sure he gets playing time.

No, I would care too much about my players.

NFL Combine Report
I watched 3.25 Missouri games this year. First one was UGA vs Missouri then the last part of the USCe vs Missouri, Auburn vs Missouri and then their bowl game.
I don't even remember Michael Sam in any of those games. When I heard he was SEC DPOY I had no idea who he was but knew Missouri was a good defense so maybe he was the main reason why. Now that I've read a little on his background and Missouri's defense I wonder it looks more like Kony Ealy was the consistent DE at Missouri.
quote:
6-2
260 lbs
Strengths
Good arm length. Anticipates the snap and has a very good initial first step. Plays hard -- gives great effort and competes every down. Good on-field intensity and demeanor. Attacks the edges aggressively and motor runs hot. Outstanding weight-room strength -- can squat a small house. Very durable.
Weaknesses
Lacks burst and acceleration off the edge to get a step on blockers and finish. Sack production results from effort and production flushed to him and is not creatively produced with savvy pass-rush moves, speed, power or bend. Average hip flexibility and snap -- struggles clearing his hips at the top of his rush and trimming the corner. Adequate anchor vs. the run. Is late to disengage from blocks. Does not strike with authority. Inconsistent tackler. Late bloomer who could require time to adapt to the pro game.
Bottom Line
A productive, 4-3 weakside rusher who came on as a senior and it made his last season his best. Could fit most ideally as a 3-4 outside linebacker in a zone-blitzing scheme like the Steelers or Ravens. Compares favorably to Chargers 2009 first-round pick Larry English, an overhyped, overdrafted, marginal producer in the pros.

I don't know, the team is about the team. It's difficult with the way the media is today. So is this guy worth the negative that COULD happen?
Look, if the NFL has a bully problem, you really want to now deal with THIS? It's a shame that it's an issue, but from a business standpoint, No I would not draft Sam. Sorry.
