Because both Mississippi schools happen to be geographically situated in the west.
And Mississippi is very poor.

If your school isn't in the top 50 should you really be starting a flame thread? Vandy and UF really should have been the ones to start this.

If the SEC wants to enhance their academic reputation, they should kick Georgia out and add Georgia Tech.

Tech also has a more recent national championship in football and the SEC is all about national championships

Look at the states they represent. Large land grant universities like the SEC members tend to be generally reflect the priorities & educational development of the states in which they are located. The SEC West represents some of the poorest, worst educated, and least progressive states in the country.
