think he is going to use his powers of persuasion to see one or the other undone, most likely going to a 9 game slate if I had to pick.

I may be a tougher sell though. All of the coaches other than Saban are against it. So he'll have to convince the presidents that they need to vote against their coaches.

I'm going to say it's safe to guess that these schools will definitely vote to keep the permanent games: Bama, AU, UT, UGA, Arky, & Mizzou.

Eh, I don't think we'd really give a shite. You know, considering we've never played in SEC play, and only like 5 times in history.

The ACC vote may have some influence, not quite sure when they take theirs though.

Yeah, there are just too many disparate interests. The 6-1-1 format is not the favorite of many but it's acceptable to just about everyone (only LSU has openly been hostile towards it). It's easily the least objectionable and I think in situations like this, that's what wins out.

The SEC’s sacred rivalries of Auburn-Georgia and Alabama-Tennessee sound like they’re in jeopardy.

No...no they're not. The majority of schools want to keep the perm cross division rivalries.

Leave it as it is with 8 and cross-division permanents or go to 9, do away with divisions, roll one off and one on each year, then let Alabama and whoever comes in second play in the SECCG in Atlanta each December

Yep, so much history in the Mississippi schools vs. Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Wonder why those schools support it?

yes, he's quite the gester

his overall point is well taken. there are some very different and perhaps diametrically opposed interests with respect to scheduling. the bama/uga/auburn/tenn group doesn't want to make their fixed rivalry games potentially ooc games (the spurrier solution).

to beat a dead horse, the roommate switch proposal would be a great option IMO but I don't know that it has received a fair hearing (and just being different from prior conference arrangements is a disadvantage when dealing with people who are unused to change)

We have played OM more than anyone except UT. It has been a competitive series for the most part, especially recently. Since 2000, 9 games have been decided by 8 points or less (6 by less than a TD). I like the game personally. Both teams are trending upwards.

It's not about history, it's about the effort to create a new cross-border rivalry for two schools that are somewhat lacking in that area currently. Creating the rivalry and moving it to the last week of the season was used as a barginning chip for Arky to except losing the LSU game on the last weekend of the season.

You realize Ole Miss vs. Vandy is the second longest rivalry in the SEC?

Is it really? I'd be surprised if it were. I will look into that.

87 meetings and annually since 1970. It is Vandy's second longest to UT.

2nd oldest rivalry in SEC is Ole Miss/Miss State at 110, 7 behind Georgia/Auburn at 117.

I did not know this, until wikipedia showed me

To all-

Uga, as it is, only gets 6-7 home games a year, usually 6 for the last several years.

Part of the reason is an annual neutral site game with UF.

Part if the reason is an annual home-away with GT.

You other schools that have your rival in conference, as part if your regular schedule, still get to play them every year AND schedule your 4 cupcakes.

A 9 game schedule would potentially frick uga out if another home game every other year.

Uga and it's rivals arent going to throw away our traditions that predate the sec, just to appease some cranky lsu fans mad about bama's ooc cupcakes. Gtho with that shite.

How many home games has lsu averaged each season for the last 5 years?

How about tamu?

When uga gets fricked out of a home game, its millions lost, not just the AD but the local economy and countless charities that run the concessions.

Uga isnt going to deal with it.

So your tradition of 6-8 home games every year is sacred?
