Coaching Hot Board
Mick Cronin - University of Cincinnati
Mick Cronin's name comes up frequently whenever a major school has a vacancy. No one has been able to get him to leave Cincinnati up to this point. Could Mike Alden and Missouri get it done? In 11 years coaching at Murray State and Cincinnati, Cronin has a record of 231-131 with six NCAA Tournament appearances.
Ben Howland
Ben Howland is not working, but that has not stopped him from being a popular name for coaching vacancies this off-season. Marquette brought him in for an interview before ultimately deciding on Steve Wojciechowski. In 19 years coaching at Northern Arizona, Pittsburgh and UCLA, Howland has a 399-208 record with ten NCAA Tournament appearances.
Tim Fuller - University of Missouri
The current associate head coach for Missouri, Tim Fuller does not have any head coaching experience, aside from being the interim head coach for five games at the start of the past season. He is considered an excellent recruiter though. Would that be enough for Mike Alden to take a chance on the unproven coach?
Archie Miller - University of Dayton
Archie Miller is one of the hottest names in the coaching industry after taking the Flyers on a deep run in the 2014 NCAA Tournament, but he does lack a proven track record. Before becoming the head coach at Dayton, Miller was the associate head coach at Arizona under his brother, Sean. In three seasons at Dayton, Miller compiled a 63-38 record with one NCAA Tournament appearance.
Tim Miles - University of Nebraska
Tim Miles just led Nebraska to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 1998 season. He has built a lot of momentum with the Husker program. Will he want to leave that right now? In seven seasons as a head coach at Colorado State and Nebraska, Miles compiled a 105-119 record with two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Matt Painter - Purdue University
Matt Painter was nearly the Mizzou coach three years ago when Frank Haith was ultimately hired. Would his familiarity with Mizzou and the interview process make him a more likely or less likely candidate? Painter's biggest downside in most eyes would be his $1,000,000-buyout and his back-to-back last place B1G finishes. Overall at Purdue, Painter is 191-112 with six NCAA tournament appearances in nine seasons.
Chris Mack - Xavier University
Chris Mack has had a solid run at Xavier in his five season at the helm. The Musketeers' record over that period is 111-57 with four NCAA tournament appearances.
Gregg Marshall - Wichita State University
In 16 years as a head coach at Winthrop and Wichita State, Greg Marshall has a combined record of 368-154 with ten NCAA Tournament appearances. Recently, though, he has guided the Shockers to the most successful seasons in school history. At this point, he has to be considered a long shot because of rebuffed offers from other programs, but Mizzou could at least reach out to him and make him say no.
Shaka Smart - Virginia Commonwealth University
In five years as VCU's head coach Shaka Smart has compiled a 137-46 record with four NCAA Tournament appearances. He has also turned down a number of high major jobs in favor of staying in Richmond. Smart is another apparent long shot that Mizzou could at least inquire about.

Marshall and I would probably stroke out with joy.

I don't think Marshall is as unrealistic as people are saying. It sounds like he wants a huge payday (like $2.7 at the very minimum).
Doesn't sound like we are willing to do it, but if you guys are I wouldn't be surprised if he took it.

May I suggest John Pelphrey?
Great coach and a vital part of Billy Donovan's staff.

Neither Marshall or Smart would think Missouri is a big enough job for them.

and the stupid begins with names Mizzou could never land in 100 years.
We just ran off (the fans) a coach who won national coach of the year, a conference tournament title and went to the NCAA tournament twice in 3 years...
We are such a sweet little rose for the picking..... SMH
