Why can't the answer be that God created this wonderfully complex program called the Universe and all we see and know are just parts of his programming at work?

Answers need explinations.. You know that.

I'll wait until transitional fossils are found in droves, and only then will I begin to consider evolution somewhat valid. After all, Darwin him self said we should be tripping over these transitional fossils if his theory is true.

If you really think about all the miracles of life. It's almost impossible not to believe in a higher power.
Posted on 4/6/14 at 2:24 pm to MontyFranklyn
But who taught god programming?

More people would be happier about science if they could take your view, IMO. Science is exploration of the natural world. It's that simple.
Religion is exploration of what believers think of as a spiritual world. It's that simple.

IMO we are too complex of creatures not to have a designer.

It can be but in terms of what we teach in school we have to go with more fact and less philosophy. You ask and give a philosophical question and in religious studies and philosophy classes it would discussed and built upon. In a science class, a question/answer like that doesn't belong. However, a person can embrace both evolution as well as your philosophical view of the world.

Welcome to Deism.

Since religion wasn't hammered down my throat as a child it's very hard for me to understand why it is so hard for people to believe in evolution, but it is so easy to believe that an almighty power created the entire universe in 7 days around 6000 years ago, then he makes a man, steals his rib and makes a woman, then some shite goes bad cause they wanna get it on, then he gets this other guy to build a boat that could hold all the land animals he'd created on earth times 2 plus enough food to keep them fed for 40 days (even though we still don't know all the animals that exist), etc, etc, etc...
Somebody started a thread about what was the biggest bullshite story you were ever told... well...hmmm.

So the universe is so incredibly complex that it couldn't have simply existed without a creator? It would follow, then, that the creator would be of equal or greater complexity than the universe. In this case, who created the creator?

I believe in God as a higher power. Who he really is and how he came to be, I don't know.
The odds of our world and life being spontaneously created through chance are so huge, that it's damn near impossible without some form of intelligent design.
That said, I believe in microevolution. Macroevolution has very little proof to back the theory.
Honestly, I think the answers to our creation are a long time away from coming to fruition. I think it's so advanced that right now our minds cannot understand nor conceive it. We have a tendency to form solutions based on what we can see or what makes sense, in order to have an explanation for that which we do not understand.
At one time people were certain the Earth was flat, and those who claimed it round were treated as crazy. It is arrogant and narrow minded to label one person as wrong and you as right when in reality neither have a clue to the answer.
I'm a man of faith because I questioned God's legitimacy. IT is good to question things, it is right to question things. Blind faith based on nothing is dangerous and idiotic. This goes for both sides. I'm a man of faith because the questions I asked resulted in answers that solidified my faith.
This is directed at nobody in particular, but rather my view on the subject.
I actually question Jesus' legitimacy more than God's. My studying of the Old vs New Testament and it's inconsistencies in teaching is why.
Here is my reasoning...why do we, as Christians, think that we are the only ones allowed into Heaven. What about people who have never even heard the Christian message? It's not their fault. Why would Muslims, who believe in basically the same God but a different prophet (Muhammed rather than Jesus) be cast into hell?
Consider this... what would Men like Muhammed and Jesus have to gain as political figures if they used the presence of God and blind faith of the common man to their advantage to gather a large contingent of people to follow in their certain set of ideologies?
Not saying this is true, but any open minded person with questions can see that its possible a particular cult of personality in those times could have easily gathered support to further an ideological agenda.
There could be a God, and we could all still be wrong and following the wrong religions.

LINK -- Kenneth Miller (A Catholic) absolutely destroying Intelligent Design. It's two hours long, but if you are really looking for answers -- transitional fossils, reasons behind ID (why it came about) and the trial that started off the IT vs. Evolution debate, this is the guy to listen to.

Took me forever, but I finally read this entire thread. Quite a few people, in explaining why they don't believe in evolution, demonstrated that they clearly don't even understand evolution.

Answer is no one really knows for sure

If we all found out that there was no god, it would be essential to hurry up and invent another one. We humans do not like the "end" if you know what I mean.

I'm a Christian who believes the Bible and that we did not evolve from some other organism over time.
I believe that there is a spiritual world that is the domain of God, and this spiritual world cannot be studied according to the principles and limitations of the natural world. Therefore, science is useless to us for helping us understand the spiritual world, since it is a tool to help us study the natural world.
Evidence is not brute, but requires interpretation.

Has anyone said guesses and suppositions yet?

Dadgum I hate it when mere mortals try to logically reason their way into the divine stuff. Just isn't possible(aint no way). Natural beings can't reason supernatural stuff. Limitations are a bitch, but as EW&F would say, "that's the way of the world"
