and institute some hard arse "if you're the next person to screw up you're gone regardless of who you are" rules?
These arrests are starting to be really concerning.

Not when we have an arrest for this stupid shite every 2 weeks. Sumlin needs to get control of this shite

College Station is trying to be more than a college town and are gettin to big for their britches. The city is just trying to make a point and are being dicks.

Do they still have that stupid law about no open containers outside the bird?

Outside of a marijuana possession charge against two players, we haven't had anyone arrested for anything other than a class c offense. They are only findable offenses and the cops are being dicks making arrests on them.
I'm not sure how it should be handled. I think if we start suspending players for the USC game based on class c offenses (ie a speeding ticket) then I have a problem with that. It's not merited.

I get that it was ChiliFest but appearances matter and right now it appears that Sumlin is not running a tight ship.
A ban on places like NG where its easy for players to get into trouble would be a start at fixing this PR mess.

I don't think it matters that most of the offenses are minor. This is especially true when booze is involved.
These things are adding up and the media in Texas (and possibly nationally) will start running with a Sumlin has no control theme unless he does something.

To be honest, all this--doesn't matter who, what, where, or how... it affects recruiting and establishing the city of B/CS as a decent place to be. Kids gonna be kids, and football players going to do their thing too but if they see a regular Gestapo type of police force, it's gonna make things less attractive. Am I promoting breaking the law and doing shite you're not supposed to? No, but we're only young once and you're college years will be the last truly great time in your lives until the real world starts kicking your arse.

They've been doing it with Richt for years. He still pulls top classes.

He has it way easier than whoever is HC of A&M.
Richt is at the flagship FBS university in Georgia and one of just 4 FBS teams with Georgia Tech, Georgia State, and Georgia Southern as the others. Their one P5 rival happens to be an egghead school that has much harder admission and eligibility hurdles to overcome. On top of that, GT is slowly killing its program by employing an option coach who is driving away their better players.
Meanwhile, in the state of Texas, A&M has 4 P5 FBS schools to recruit against in Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, and TCU. There are also 7 more FBS schools in SMU, Houston, Rice, UTEP, UTSA, Texas State, and North Texas. Hell, you may as well had OU and Okie Light as Texas based schools too since they primarily recruit their best players from the state.
Never mind that Richt also has his Mr. Christian thing to deflect any trouble that goes on at UGA. Sumlin doesn't have that at all.

There's no data to support what you're saying just like there's no data to support what I'm saying. It's pure speculation
There's more talent in TX so having more competition doesn't equate to recruiting losses. Plus Alabama, Auburn and Florida have been raiding Georgia for years. So that rebuts your entire argument.

What the?
recruiting against 4 in state FBS schools vs 11 IS data.

uhh no. it doesnt at all. Alabama, Florida, and Auburn are not making Georgia their main recruiting grounds and thus are NOT equal to dealing with that many more schools in state.
Never mind that OU, Okie Light, LSU, and Arkansas all recruit Texas just as heavily (if not more) as the three you mentioned.
I'm sorry but it is NOT pure speculation to say that recruiting at A&M vs Georgia is tougher b/c of the amount of teams we compete with in state compared to UGA.
Georgia doesn't deal with near the amount of competition for recruits that we do. Sorry but that is a straight fact. It doesn't even matter that we have a bigger population simply b/c of the shear amount of schools that come to Texas vs Georgia.
On top of that, we still have Texas in state to deal with. We may like to puff out our chests and act like the Horns are in the rear view mirror but fact is they are still far more competition for recruits than anyone UGA has to deal with.
Bottom line is arrests like this are BAD for the program and WILL be used against us in recruiting. They are not something you blow off as no big deal. It took Sherman several years to restore confidence in Texas High School coaches that A&M was looking out for their kids best interests. Stuff like this makes it possible to screw that all up.

I really don't care about this stuff unless the charges are stealing, arson, or violent crimes.

thats great but you aren't a recruit's parents or a media member looking for an easy story to gin up faux outrage all over the internet for clicks

This old fart agrees. This stuff adds up in parents' minds. Right now it looks like the program is out of control. I'd have thought Sumlin would have read the riot act to the team after the Hill thing.

No. Such a policy would be a gross overreaction. The various arrests don't concern me as the misdemeanors were of the non-violent variety.
Sumlin is handling things accordingly. See how he dealt with the Kameron Miles situation.
If Sumlin ever decided to coddle sex offenders and put personnel matters up for a team vote, then I'd be worried.

I don't see how this would be an overreaction. The last 2 (more?) guys arrested were under 21 and shouldn't be there anyway, unless there's more to Northgate than there was in my days at A&M.

I'm late tot he party. Did I hear he was arrested for using bad language? That cannot be accurate right? What a fricking joke.
