once Slive is gone or hypothetically speaking will he make it back to the SEC or will he play another SEC team in a bowl game before he gets back?

He'll die of tertiary syphilis long before Slive retires.

When Malzahn heads to the NFL expect Petrino to land at Land of the Second Chance

I heard his buy out is crazy expensive though.

If Bruce Pearl can get rehired in the SEC, so can Petrino....

Different deal. Pearl is at least a media genius. He knows how to play the hearts and minds game. people want to like him.
Petrino is a good coach but a DICK. He brings negativity wherever he goes.

In a couple of years when Moozahn has to bow out at API, he will be ripe for the picking.

We know.
OTOH, Arkansas has given second chances to a cheater like Danny Ford and a douchebag like Petrino and it has gotten you absolutely nowhere

Normally, API changes about every 3 yrs. Lot of orange and blue bluster till then. Thus, starts the crying and whinning, about Gus. It will be like the rats jumping ship. Bless their hearts.

He'll find some way to worm out of it or screw UL.
His buyout with us was north of $18 mil. It's what he does -- convinces his school to put an enormous mutual buyout in place that makes him virtually unfireable in a shallow effort to bolster recruiting (hint: it doesn't, see Arkansas circa 2012-2014) when he's battling against the "job hopper" label.

It's not like Slive has a vote, or a voice on who gets hired.

This. Both are slimeballs, but Pearl is at the very least a likeable one who has a personality and knows how to use the media. Petrino is simply an a-hole whom almost all people genuinely dislike and distrust.
Plus, and this is most important, Pearl's baggage isn't as mountainous as Petrino's. Petrino's left three jobs on very public and very nasty terms, and left his last one after a year, which goes against the "disingenuous drifting job hopper" label he battles constantly on the recruiting trail. It's tough enough to recruit when parents think you're a tPOS in your personal life, but it's nearly impossible when you throw in the fact that they can be relatively certain you won't be there for the duration of your kid's college career. Just look at his recruiting at Louisville to see what he's up against -- Strong had them in good position and then they started hemorrhaging star recruits after Petrino was hired and finished with the 44th ranked class.
Louisville's a decent program, so unless he'd be willing to take a step down to the likes of MSU, Vandy or Kentucky if those jobs opened up (which I doubt), I don't see a higher level program hiring him. If Auburn didn't hire him when they were in dire straits after firing Chizik, I don't see them ever taking a chance on him. Places like Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, LSU, and Alabama aren't in the position where they have to roll the dice with guys like him.
