Thought cross divisional games were about rivalries staying intact? If out of division games did not matter towards SEC-w standings, the system would be fine. As is.. it rewards Alabama for playing Kentucky, Tennessee, and Vandy.. while LSU possibly gets dinged for playing UGA, South Carolina, Florida.
Your rotating East opponent this year is Kentucky.....at home. Bama has Florida.

Roommate switch proposal is the worst idea suggested.

it keeps the rivalries Bama/UT, UGA/Auburn want so much
Ole Miss and Vandy have been playing each other every year since WWII and the rivalry goes back further than that. That series is not going to end either.

He is just advocating what's best for the Corndogs just like Saban was for Alabama. Doing his job is all.

the Florida series doesn't mean anything to me. Why keep expanding if you are going to play particular teams once every 10-12 yrs. The whole thing is centered around the Tennessee-Alabama game which hasn't meant diddle for 40 yrs. If those two want to play each other so badly play it as a non-conference game.

SEC teams play more often now than before divisions. Making out like there is this great disparity in playing every team is a mythical argument. The large majority don't want traditional rivalries ended.

Current system is unfair. Your proposal is unfair. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria!

Nonsense. I have no idea when LSU is going to play Missouri for instance. Now that there are 14 teams, games with SC,Ga and Tenn will be more sporadic.

It evens out over the years is a bad argument. It's the kind of thing that can kill National Championships, because the rotation fricked you. The disparity year to year is the problem. Alabama is eventually going to be on the wrong end of it. Why do we want to continue with this method?

It's not nonsense. Before divisions, teams wouldn't play some other SEC teams for over a decade in some instances. Even with the expansion, teams will play more often than once a decade. It's a faulty argument, stating that it's kept teams from playing more often. They play more often now, than in the past.
eta-
Bama vs Ga in the 80's - 2 games
Bama vs Ga in the 00's - 4 games
Bama vs Fla in the 80's - 2 games
Bama vs Fla in the 00's - 3 games

This is why we never should have expanded. I told everyone they'd regret it, but no one listened to me.

Winning your division based on a round robin with your division is unfair? Other than it being the best and most equitable way of deciding such a championship, I completely agree.
It's a better system that keeps the permanent opponents together. Can't do it though, because...it would make an Alabama/Florida match up mean as much as Bama v Akron? Right.

starting in '72 teams would only go 8 yrs without playing each other. And those were home and home series. Now there is no consistancy and again I have no idea when LSU will play Missouri.
I have no problem with going to 9 games, but if 8 is the only viable option I couldn't care less about playing Florida every year. If Tennessee vs Alabama and Georgia vs Auburn are so special play it as a non conference game. No one besides the fans of those teams care about those games.

That's the nature of college ball. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

Like when Tenn was killing it in the late 90's?

Traditional rivalries set college ball apart. I would seriously lose some interest, if traditional rivalries are lost.

Whatever is done with the schedules I don't see why everyone can't agree that the division record should be at least the first tie-breaker.
We don't have to go full Spurrier (play the rivalry games as out of conference games when they aren't on the regular rotation) for this to be a common sense way to level the playing field.

Alleva is fighting the good fight, but he's finally realizing that certain schools don't care about completive balance. he's correct that it's a shortsighted position for them to take but there's only so much you can do when dealing with ignorance.
