Why did he quit the nfl in order to enlist in the army? Honorable yet kind of strange.

He decided football wasn't really for him. Apparently he didn't even enjoy playing when he was starting.

Lost his love of the game.

He also may have had thoughts of entering the ministry. Still might

Guess fulfilling other areas of his life makes him happier than having lots of money and fame, I wish there were more people like him in the world, including myself. It's hard not to admire someone like him

Because he's not a self centered prick that's only about money like most of us

According to him, God told him to enlist.

"I feel like it's His will," Coffee said. "It's something that I really felt like I shouldn't have entered the NFL in the first place. I don't know what call God has for my life, but it wasn't football. ... I'll be happier, not necessarily because I'm without football, but because I'm letting Him do his work. Whether it was leaving football or leaving something else, another job, it doesn't matter. I'll be happy because I'm following His will."

Wanted to be part of a bigger team.

To serve a bigger purpose. Glenn is a very spiritual guy. Football was a game and did not fill his desire to help others.

Not the first to think that way... Herschel Walker said on "30 for 30" he actually flipped a coin to see if he was going to play football or go to the Marines.

Unselfish not like most of us including me. I really admire him.

Wait, didn't he quit football to pursue a career in the ministry, and he was then later arrested for gun charges? I thought he later joined the military after that.
My memory of his recent past is fuzzy...

Why is it strange? The man wanted to serve his country and that was more important to him than football. The game isn't what life is about for some people.

He has that wrapped up for the decade.
