FSN is different than FS1. FSN still exists. It's a network of regional channels. IE, FSN-Houston, FSN-Dallas, etc. They show local games and mostly have the local baseball/basketball games. These "regional sports networks" are incredibly expensive and rival E$PN in price, but only for their little regions. But it's hard to project that nationally because YES and now CSN-Houston and others own some of this content so the price for these is all over the board.

Anyway, you may hear $1.30 for SECN but that's only in market. Out of market it's $0.25/subscriber (or that's what they are asking). Since in-market is like 1/3 of the country, the average subscriber price would likely only be around $0.60 which is also probably not in the top 10.

I am thrilled to be wrong. Looks like I'm wrong in spectacular fashion and it looks like the SECN will be a walk off grand slam from day one.

No one would have dared dream it would be getting so much carriage. Looks like every big player is in. Unreal.

wouldn't go so far. We really don't know the contract details. ESPN could very well be settling in order to gain carriage like Fox did with FS1. I think the mistake they made with LHN was not doing so.

Also, the "about to be announced" thing is usually leaked by cable companies to retain customers. Now they need to follow up but by leaking it being imminent, it gives them more time and some may even extend contracts, etc.

But sometimes they never get the deal done - I believe one of the big players leaked something similar with LHN before the first year and obviously didn't pick them up. So I won't believe it until these deals are officially announced, though I have to say the Comcast memo, if real, is pretty positive.

I could see them settling somewhat w/ the initial carriers as a means to pressure the others. But if they're reaching agreements with virtually everyone... what's the point? If these agreements are for any length of time, the SEC would be leaving a ton of money on the table if they settle for a bargain price.

We don't know this either. I'm pretty sure the Dish deal was longer and more comprehensive since it included all parts of Disney (and online content). But the others are just one-offs that could be any terms.

I'm obviously not privy to the discussions, but a lowball 1-year deal is not abnormal for new channels with the agreement that a good-faith negotiation takes place once ratings/demand are established. Sweetheart deals with early adopters (with several providers) is not a bad idea to put pressure on others by giving consumers options.

Too many assumptions are being taken as fact right now imo

welp, that memo appears accurate. Major news media is tweeting that Sports Business Daily is about to drop that announcement in the next hour or so

here is a presentation John Connelly put together on the SECN. The ratings stuff is pretty interesting (starting about page 15) as is page 41 about consumer demand

apparently they were in a rush trying to get it announced yesterday before the media left but didn't get the release and graphics done by 5.

Just called Charter again.

The lady just laughed and said the SEC network is the "question of the month"

She did say that Charter is making carrying the network a high priority, though. Hopefully that means good news will come down the pike soon.

FYI Comcast's definition of Expanded Basic
Our Expanded Basic package includes 30-50 channels.* These include:

Disney
ESPN
MTV
Fox News

The only level below that is just locals and government channels (no ESPN, news channels, etc)

And Digitial Starter
140+ channels. Does not include NFLN, NBAtv, MLBtv and starts at $29/month. So my guess is 90%+ of all Xfinity customers have this at least

Woah. If that rate is standard across the board then the SEC is looking at doubling its money from TV next year (if the 50/50 split is real).

We will surpass the LHN's final year payout year 1 of the SECN!

Ok, I'm confused. I'm trying to determine "digital basic" vs. "expanded basic"

I could have sworn that, in Washington, I'd need the Sports Tier.
