This makes me really sad. And makes me like NFL even less. I prefer college sports, especially football and basketball, anyway. But if teams pass on him because of this? I'll watch NFL even less.
Yeah, maybe the NFL experts should go ask the Mizzou staff how disruptive it was to the Mizzou team this past season. Hell, not only did the team play great with and around Sam, but if I remember correctly, the TEAM still voted him a team MVP. Yeah, really disruptive to the locker room.

Half of y'all posting these pics saying how proud you are. But most of y'all was the ones talkin shite behind his back in the locker room

Yikes. This is the kind of thing the team doesn't need in this situation. They should be focusing on supporting him, not tearing each other down.

Anybody else think that some aggressive J-schooler trying to get a job at ESPN is feeding them rumors? I'd be curious to know how ESPN initially got turned on to this and the swim thing

Sad to think this, but it wouldn't really surprise me.

This was planned, Sam had a team of people and they picked ESPN to do the story. The only thing that changed was the original date had to be bumped up when everyone else got a hold of the story.
It's all here, it's a pretty cool article: https://www.outsports.com/2014/2/9/5396036/michael-sam-gay-football-player-missouri-nfl-draft

Howard already knew he wanted the TV element to be on ESPN. He has a working relationship with ABC, who shares a parent company — Disney — with ESPN. He had worked with Chris Connelly before and respected his work, and he knew ESPN would treat Sam well. Plus, ESPN is a sports media outlet with a good track record on LGBT sports issues: The story had to be the football, the sport.

I wish nothing but success for Michael but as far as this announcement....so what.

The whole team knew and they went 12-2. Cotton Bowl Champs. So obviously it does not "destroy" a lockerroom.

Its like this if he goes to the 49ers for example. I dont care if he is gay straight or half/half as long as he makes plays.
ETA: the mention of the 49er example is not a joke... they are my team thats why I mentioned them.

I'm happy for him. He shouldn't have to hide who he is and I'm glad he had the courage to come out. He will still do great in the NFL, of course.

Kudos to you Michael!
You've just made life a little easier for countless guys down the line.

I just hope Sam ends up playing for my Cowboys or Texans

I think it's sad that everyone comes on here posting their opinions about Sam but one guy posts his opinion that others don't agree with and he is automatically a homophobic jackass. Which side is intolerant? Personally, I believe homosexuality is a sin. Will I change anyone's mind that disagrees with me? Probably not but it doesn't make me wrong.

Buck, I don't think it's that people having differing opinions. There are lots of people who support Mike as a person and aspiring professional without endorsing his lifestyle. Thinking that homosexuality is a sin doesn't make you intolerant. What makes you intolerant is if you think he should be penalized by employers, friends or society in general for it.
I have gay friends. I won't pretend to understand their lifestyle, but I love them regardless and don't think they're any less than me for it. Any sin they're committing is no worse than some of mine. Or at least that's how I look at it. They are still wonderful, kind, smart, loyal people that I feel blessed to know.
