Ah, okay. I attend a lot of trade shows myself, but totally different industry. Hunting/outdoors.

Ok. I thought we were going to have a super funny moment.

At this trade show there's a company from Louisiana that partners with the aforementioned company. A competitor, but our paths don't cross a lot. One night we sponsored a party together. Guys from the other company were LSU fans and were drunk off their rear and setting themselves up to slay some tail all evening.

If there was a chance you were one of them I would have been amazed.

Hatteras Island, NC.

Second choice would be somewhere in the Smokey Mountains.

Yeah that sounds about like my industry.

Never been there in the winter, but I'm a big fan of Gulf Shores, AL when it's warm. Mrs. Tantal wants a condo somewhere between Gulf Shores and Panama City Beach when we retire. Can't say that I blame her.

My grandparents lived in a condo on Orange Beach for a few years after they retired.

And??? My retirement plans involve either 100 acres in the Piney Woods of E. Texas (Longview area) or the Redneck Riviera. Still trying to decide, but any input is greatly appreciated.

San Diego for me.

Came here to visit family when I was 12.

I told myself that summer, "Self, your arse is gonna live in San Diego, no matter what it takes."

Got here when I was 22 thanks to the Navy, I'm 37 now. I've never left, and cannot find a reason to live anywhere else. Except maybe Hawaii.

They liked it for awhile, but condo life isn't all it's made out to be. They ended up selling the condo and buying a house on a golf course in south Florida. Much nicer place, and way cheaper.

1000 square feet is tiny for 2 ppl who are going to spend a lot of time together.

Just saw the question about living in Miami. Imo, it is a great place to live. Obviously beaches, women, and it never gets cold - assuming you don't mind hot weather 9 months a year which I like.

Thing about south Florida is it has whatever you like living wise. You have Cuban areas, tourist areas, minority, professional, blue collar, etc. For example, south beach is obviously touristy n expensive. Brickell is professionals and expensive. Aventura is a nice mix of some professionals, some young, some old n moderately priced. Pembroke is more blue collar and college area. Doral and little Havana are Cuban and or blue collar. All of the is Dade. Then fort lauderale is another area that has all different types of areas and is still south Florida.

Just a lot of variety here with all different types of areas and people. Really an international area. Hell, sunny isles is mostly European and Russian.

Oh, as for the condo in Orange Beach, my parents did the same. Retired, bought about a 1400 square foot condo in orange beach and lived there for four years. Decided they wanted a house and back yard again so built one and left the condo after that.

It's not the city, it's the people. Just too much hippie liberal tree hugging bidness in the northwest.

I live in the burbs and "visit" Portland when I can. It's not that different from the rest of America. Freeways are choked with traffic so living more than 10 miles from work is very ill advised. Lots of dining choices. You don't have to live in the same neighborhood as the hipsters to benefit from their cultural "contributions".

Main reason I moved here was because it's 90 minutes to the mountains or the coast and it's the least populated state on the West Coast.

Looking at an icy, snowy mess out my window right now so I'm starting to wonder if San Diego would have been a better choice.

Man it just rains way too much up there.

It rains often from October thru June but the total amount is little more than half what Baton Rouge gets in a year.

Cold rain does suck but it's rare you need an umbrella.

Keeps it green up here and we don't have water wars like California does.

Bend, Oregon is where I used to dream of moving to. Great snow and much sunnier. Far fewer good paying jobs though.

I'd take the North Carolina side of the smoky mtns. Has everything I'd want with climate, nature, etc.

I wouldn't be opposed to the PNW either. Really like that area.

See I love the idea of Oregon and Western Washington (I've heard eastern Wash is sucky) but just don't think I could handle the political climate. My friends from there said I wouldn't enjoy it very much.
