Georgia finished #5. They went undefeated in conference play while both LSU and Ole Miss had a loss.
Ole Miss' 1959 team was picked as the all-time greatest college football team ever in one poll...would've flattened UG if they had played head-to-head.

Who leads the series between Florida and Tennessee?
Seeing as youre a UF fan, i'm assuming your question is rhetorical
UT and florida played like 9 times before 1992. If we had been a regular matchup before that then UT would dominate the series. So thank you for proving my point. Who lost to Georgia Southern this year?

quote: Maybe retarded, but absolutely happened. Ole Miss was assigned Arkansas as a conference game a number of years. Didn't mean Arkansas was in the SEC at the time, just that they counted as a conference game for Ole Miss. All of this nonsense, instead of just playing a school ACTUALLY IN the conference? I don't even... Reply • Options • Back to Top
It happened mainly because Georgia Tech refused to play Ole Miss when Vaught was here, as did many others in the conference. The league didn't schedule games, the schools did. And if you couldn't get 6 other teams to schedule conference games, the conference assigned a non c to count. Usually they picked your toughest ooc. If history is being questioned, it should be studied first IMHO.

1. In your opinion.
2. Seriously? Who lost to the team that lost to Georgia Southern?

1988 - LSU beat Auburn head-to-head (both were tied in SEC play), but AU gets credit for an SEC title.
Auburn also received the SEC's automatic bid to the Sugar Bowl. It helps having the SEC's office located in the same state.

And probably every other person on the rant's opinion too.. UT was good pre-90s, UF was shite pre-90s. It's really just common sense

The team that had more wins than you and beat a top 5 team

5-7>4-8?
You think I don;t know we're in a 9 game losing streak? You, sir, are ignorant

The frick does this have to do with who won the SEC?

Nice! Proud of you
still doesn't change the fact you lost twice as many games as you won...

The North Carolina game was designated by the SEC as a conference game and counted in the conference record, which is why they list Georgia at 6-0.
WTF UGA played 6 SEC teams in 66' MSU, AU, Miss, Tech, UK, & UF. UNC was a non conference game. I guess maybe you forgot tech was in the SEC at that time or something and thats why you tried to justify UNC as a conference game.
But per UGA directly they only went 5-0 in conference play

It just goes along with the OP's theme that SEC titles awarded before the championship game was invented were a bit screwy.
Ole Miss' 1959 team was designated as the #1 greatest team of all time by footballoutsiders.com--and LSU's '59 team is also listed as #28 all-time, out of tens of thousands of teams that have played over the years...yet neither of those teams won the '59 SEC title, because a team in the eastern part of the conference went undefeated against a weaker conference schedule.

And I bet LSU fans started a schedule thread about it

No, he's right. Tech withdrew from the SEC in '64. In '66, Bama won the SEC title at 6-0. UG didn't play the required six conference games to qualify for the title (since the Tech game no longer counted in the standings), so they were allowed to designate UNC as a shadow "conference game" instead--never mind the fact that UG had TWO YEARS to replace Tech on their schedule with another (real) SEC team. In the end, Bama got kind of screwed here and had to share the title with UG.

I forgot they left in the ealrier 60's, but still UGA's own record books denote 5-0 in conference play, FWIW

Good one.
Seriously, a Tennessee fan shouldn't joke about weak conference schedules. UT is the Queen Mother of weak conference schedules since the SEC has existed.
