Yes. Wanted a pro-style QB in 2010 class and thought Boyd would scare them off.

To be fair, most believed Petty was a huge reach when he committed.

I didn't know Kiffin was our Head coach now. Our 2015 class has the #1 QB in the country already committed

There is also a back story here. Tennessee was down to Cam and Simms and told them they would decide which one to offer after watching them play live during UT's bye week (JUCO games on Saturday).

On the bye week Chaney and Frank Wilson went to watch Simms and Kiffin and Reaves went to Blinn to watch Cam. They get there and Cam is suspended. Simms has a good day out in Cali and the rest is history.

I knew that, but it's more fun to retroactively say that Kiffin liked Simms more than Newton without the details
