wow...Im actually shocked by this...I thought the Gators would be more dominant

Why? Prior to the mid 80s florida was an extremely average, bland football program. 1990 is when they really blew the lid off and became nationally elite and have remained a top program with the exception a few stretches since then. But prior to the mid 80s Florida was really nothing special.

People forget that before 1980 UF was pretty average

Not really. UF Football started in 1990, or approximately ten years before LSU took up the sport.

We have never been a great bowl team for whatever reason. Spurrier was only 6-5 at UF. I think it was under Meyer we got above .500 in bowl games, he went 5-1.
