Is it time for tu vs A&M?

I hate the orange people from Austin as much as the next guy but is it time to resume playing them?
This past weekend I saw State vs, Ole Miss, Michigan vs. Ohio State, Auburn vs Alabama, Florida vs Florida State, USC vs UCLA but not the greatest rivalry ever...tu vs A&M.
We have won the battle. tu is in our rear view mirror and the nation knows the truth about the sips.
The LSU vs A&M shows real potential and we should continue to play on Thanksgiving weekend but the nation needs to see the best college athletes from Texas battle it out in the greatest state in the union.
Where am I wrong?

They need to crawl across broken glass and beg for us to take them back...then the first 10 games need to be at Kyle.
I'm in agreement with Kaiser...treat them like a mid-major.

As soon as people stop calling them tu we can play them again.

I would love this first game of the season.

It will happen soon enough.
ESPN and a Texas based corporate sponsor will make it so.

This. Exactly how we used to play LSU. It would make our schedule look so much better. They are gonna have to be the ones to ask/beg though.

It'll never be the same without Bonfire anyways so I agree.

Why this is a point of contention, I'll never understand. It's just tradition. Were you ever a part of the 12th Man? Did you ever yell, "BEAT THE HELL OUTTA tu!", or did you alter it? It's just a name and a harmless one at that, and I'll never see why people act like it is some microcosm of some undesirable trait. Compound it with the fact that it makes them made, and it annoys them, I don't see why we would stop. If they thought it was innocuous, they wouldn't care. But they "think it's stupid". Good. That means they take themselves too seriously.

Try to get them to stop calling us aggy.

I personally feel as if they're trying to force a rivalry with LSU and you guys. LSU Arkansas on rivalry weekend has almost always produced epic showdowns. No matter how weak one team was. Maybe Texas A&M-LSU will do the same but until I see it, I'm not so sure.

No. I think we still need to form more of a national identity post-Manziel. I think when that game is on the schedule, it makes it more difficult. Our biggest game of the year needs to be LSU/Auburn/Alabama/Arkansas for a while. We need to form these relationships.

I know that sucks, but we still haven't won anything. We haven't

Still disagree. We still have work to do. We still don't have hardware that the country(and more importantly the state) needs for validation.

I agree that needs to happen, but I think the nation also needs to see the greatest conference crown the greatest state champions first. Luckily we are the representatives. The State of Alabama theoretically can win 5 straight. The State of Texas needs more than one school to have won something significant in the last 75 years.

I think you're too easily buying in to the grand narrative. It's the same narrative that said A&M/Mizzou would never be successful in the SEC, the same narrative that said tu would always own the state, the same narrative that said Florida State would always suck because the ACC is terrible, and that any other Skip Bayless-esque opinion(whether you agree or disagree) actually makes sense and is plausible.
The fact of the matter is, regardless of what conference A&M or tu is in, coaching and recruiting, are the far more important set of criteria for who wins and loses. I don't give a shite if the SEC wins 8 in a row, and 1-14 preseason is SEC teams, the Big 12 loses every OOC game... tu still has the capability of beating us, just like when we were a Big 12/SWC team we had the capability of beating them.
Conference affiliation matters, as it can lead to better recruiting, adn better coaching, but how we've gotten to the point where we discount others simply because of conference prestige is mind bottling. The Florida Gators are in the SEC, and are probably the second most successful SEC program in the BCS era. They have 4 wins. Florida State is in the ACC and has 12 wins. The current dynamic of college football is not some representation of how it will last in to perpetuity. How we stood by our team watching it lose to lesser programs under Sherman and Fran, you didn't buy in to any of the arguments then did you? How A&M supposedly could never win anything? So why are people suddenly reversing course? Why are people buying that narrative now, just because we are temporarily on the winning side of it?

So you're saying that there is just no way the game will ever be an epic showdown simply because what? In the most recent three games it hasn't happened? What about the 9 or 10 before that? No part of what you're saying makes sense.

I don't disagree with this but we will likely never play on Tday weekend again which diminishes the importance of the game and even if we scheduled it now we wouldn't resume for 3-4 years anyway just because of making the schedules work at this point.

I think a lot of younger swamp kittens feel this way. They ascended and we've had our worst decade since the 60s. Most people don't realize how strong we are because we've fricked it up ourselves so much. No need to convince them. It'll come on its own but we have to do our part.

It might diminish it slighty, but the Red River Shootout isn't on the final week, the WLOCP isn't, the TSIO, etc. If both teams are among the best in the country, the hate and significance will be astronomical.
