Being a Gator fan and seeing the team have its first losing season in your life (30 btw) or being a Bama fan and losing a shot at the Natty the way they just did.

I felt awful for Bama. Saban should have played for OT instead of a 57 yarder.

I think by the time you have a losing season, you've dealt with the let down, so Bama. It's more acute.

BTW, did you know we are the last team to have a losing season since expansion in the 90s?

Not sure.

Since we have lost so many games this year, I am pretty numb to it. I would say losing the chance at a NC because my HC elects to kick a 57yd and someone returns the damn thing 109yds would be more depressing.

An improbable loss to a rival feels worse in the moment, but a shitty season like this one leaves a lasting effect. At the end of the day, you take Alabama's season over ours every time, and that's all that matters imo.

Listening to the Auburn broadcast on XM radio was a trip...real whiners and unprofessional. The worse I ever heard was traveling top New Orleans in the early 1980s and listening to the Tulane radio broadcasters...holy moly...they whined about every single flag every single mishap and just sucked.
I thought the play by play(?) guys was going to have his gasket blow live on radio and breathe his last when AU ran the FG kick back. He made Munson sound cool calm and collected.

I like it when the home radio crew is biased and being homers, more fun to listen to.

Same. Hubert would make a call like the Auburn guys.

Cornhat, every time you post, your name makes me want a nacho sombrero.

Admittedly, I'm kinda weird though.

Mick would not sound like the AU guy..trust me. He complained about refs and everything and missed calls if he saw something like holding...etc etc....Mick would never do that. The broadcast is suppose to be slightly in favor of the their team...sure....but they are supposed to be neutral most of the time and report the game itself...go to any journalism class for the opinions of professors. Ive listened to a lot of SEC broadcasts back in the days and most were genuine and tried to give listeners a capsule of the game action so you could visualize it. Otis Boggs was one of the best and he made me feel like I was there as a 15 yr old and I could see the sights and sounds from his depictions.

I didn't.

Partially because I was shocked that I actually saw that happen.

Bama isn't a broken program. I would rather be in their shoes ALL day. They can at least look to the future for hope. Our future is uncertain at best, dismal at worst.

Losing in the Swamp to Vandy and Georgia Southern. That is pretty bad.

Sorry reel, but gotta disagree with you there. I am a professor in the school of mass comm, and I can promise you that no one in Weimer considers Mick to be a journalist. It's not a knock on him or his professionalism, that just isn't what the home team's color commentator is supposed to be.

I don't consider him to be a journalist either...not by a mile...my point is that color guys and play by play guys should respect the concept of broadcasting a game and be descriptive so the listener can understand what is going on with constant whining about refs. BTW Mick is a play by play and not the color guy...color commentators have more leeway to be "homers" but the AU folks went over and beyond...in MY opinion.
I have grown up with all kinds of broadcasters bringing games into my home and the best are the ones who try to be complimentary of the other team and keep on track of the games progress. I go way back to 1962 and from watching Frank Gifford, YA Tittle and Del Schofner for the NY Giants playing in sub freezing games and on to teams like Baltimore Colts with Johnny Unitas throwing to Jim Mackey....baseball games of the Atlanta Braves, soccer games...etc etc.
Actually Mick is way way down on my list of play by play guys that I would rate as professionals and I even had a conversation once with a coach about him....but it was just an opinion. Larry Munson was totally unprofessional...but he was funny..Mick adds no humor.

True, I misspoke in that regard. I just wanted to be clear that neither he nor Lee are expected to be particularly even handed so long as they are accurately describing the actual plays.

I enjoy the homer nature of a local broadcast, but I do agree that when it goes from a kind of excitement in the way they call the game too kool aid drinking, it is a bit much.
