Gators on Message Boards

Most fans on the team message boards are simple minded. Very few objective posters, mostly one way or the other, unfortunately.

As you get older, you begin to learn that the success of your favorite team doesn't solely indicate your personal happiness. At least that is what I have noticed over the years. I find myself way less upset after a loss or miss in recruiting than I did 10 years ago. Now, I typically bitch and moan for a few minutes post game, then go hang out with the family. It used to tear me up until the following Thu or Fri (until I could start getting over the previous opponent and excited for the next game). Things have certainly changed in my life. I think it is more of a maturity issue.

I lik to be happy, so I try to look at the positive outlook of things. I try to stay away from negativity because I rather not get in bad moods about things I have no control over. So I simply don't participate in certain things. To me this is for entertainment not for suffering. If I start suffering, I simply turn it off.

Life is short. I rather not spend mylife beating dead horses or arguing with people I will never convince of a different point of view.

I guess that makes me a terrible poster

Austin is awesome. I currently live in Houston, but moved to Houston from Highland Park. Can't stand it here, but I escape up to Austin whenever I get the chance.

I manage to get back out there pretty often myself. I miss my damned brisket breakfast tacos.

Yeah, I don't really think we are indicative of the majority of fans. Most don't care enough to spend too much time going on message boards.

I think the only issue I have is the 100% nega-gator or 100% sunshine pumper. At least this board has its own views, but and at least thinks logically (although game threads shouldn't count, because god knows what I've written on them ).

I used to be insane when we lost important games and I recall the worse ones:

1990 UF vs UT when Spurrier had guided us to undefeated season far and at halftime in Knoxvegas the score was 7-3, the second half kick off was run back by Dale Cater ( a great safety ) and the gates opened up...we lost 45-3 and I threw rum and coke right through my living room tv and had to watch bedroom tv after that with more alcohol
1980 UF vs UGA everyone should know this game and I still hear Larry Munsons raspy voice when it was replayed later on
1976 UF vs UGA one of my all time lows (you think its bad NOW?)and we ran the wishbone with some of the fastest and shiftiess humans on earth in the backfield...very explosive and we outscored quite a few teams in shootouts...it was 40-70 yd TD runs by the buckets back then. Anyway, UGA ran the veer offense and we took it to them...27-13 halftime score and I was jumping in the stands as we had not lost to a SEC team that year and could FINALLY win it! Well...Vince Dooley must have blistered everyone of the dawgs azzs and they came out FIRED UP. They promptly smoked us on the ground and we couldn't stop them. It was 27-27 and they were a runaway freight train...Dickey had a 4th and 1 at our own 29 yd line and he KNEW that if we punted they were coming right down the field...so he gambled and lost. A run sweep by Earl Carr to the sidelines (UGA had stacked the inside)almost made it a 71 yd TD...but one defender was there to bring him down. I have always agreed that the right call was made. Earl Carr was a fullback...but fleet footed.
