If only to get him drunk with a tape recorder handy, UGA can give him an interview. But why would he want to get a job, when he can just have Auburn continue to pay him a nice salary? Didn't they give him an extension the year before they fired him?

This is Mark Richt we're talking about here. They'll win out, go 9-4, and appear halfway decent and Grantham will stay.

I actually think Grantham's done. Some people who would know are pretty sure he is, anyway

Very reputable insiders on 247 say that it is most likely so. Lowndes, saved, and crit. Not the LHB crowd. My impression was that he maybe could save his job but he would have to be very impressive from there on out (Vandy week). He obviously hasn't been, at least not to most people.

The key is that Richt isn't really friends with Grantham like he was with Martinez. Apparently things sort of came to a head in a staff meeting a few weeks ago.

ETA - don't shoot the messenger if this doesn't happen. I want this to be true so bad but don't have any way of confirming this myself

The defense has made strides this season. Leonard Floyd staying home on the read option shows that there has been some coaching however the severe lack of fundamentals on the final play shows that going into the timeout not one coach mentioned knock it down if it is near you. He will probably be fired but the team should be better next season.

At least Grantham has been there now for almost 4 years, so you and the AD has some data to back up decisions/opinions.

2013 UGA Ranks
53 Total Defense
36 Rushing Defense
72 Passing Eff Defense
82 Scoring Defense

2012 UGA Ranks
32 Total Defense
77 Rushing Defense
37 Pass Eff Defense
18 Scoring Defense

2011 UGA Ranks
5 Total Defense
11 Rushing Defense
4 Pass Eff Defense
23 Scoring Defense

2010 UGA Ranks
23 Total Defense
56 Rushing Defense
48 Pass Eff Defense
36 Scoring Defense

So Grantham's Defense over the past 4 years has an Avg Rank of:
28 Total Defense
45 Rushing Defense
43 Passing Eff Defense
40 Scoring Defense

That's not terrible, it's above avg on all categories, but what might be more alarming for some is the trend. His best 2 defenses were in '10 and '11. There was a big drop off from '11's to '12's, but then '13's is even worse than '12's.

I think you are correct but most people would argue that Top 10 recruiting classes every year should equal a Top 25 defense every year at a minimum. I think that is most peoples issue is the talent that comes to Georgia should yeild decent results but after watching so many miss tackles and poor fundamentals you have to wonder if it's coaching or the kids they recruit just suck.

You recruit athletes and teach them how to play. Not many great athletes are coached up that well in HS. They dominate due to physical ability, and it's up to college coaches to help them take the next step

If you look at everywhere Chiz has succeeded as a DC, the teams have been absolutely stacked.

I couldn't laugh any harder if I tried. If Mark Richt hired GC, Mark Richt officially has lost control of Mark Richt.

I am now rethinking my opinion on whether he knows jack shite about defense too or if a lot of his success was due to Tuberville being a very good defensive coach.

Tampa 2 is still a very good defense but a lot of it is very reliant on getting a good push up front and that is what we lacked with Chizik as head coach.
