Ok, here we go for the kids that rode the short bus. In songwriting they use these things called metaphors. These metaphors are a creative way of describing the subject they're writing about.
In this case they are comparing the wild predator aspect of a bear with the usually demure attitude of a cat. They are drawing these parallels with the young lady who the writer is dating. She is a bit wild, but can also be quiet and sweet. This leads to the next line "wild as mink, but sweet as soda pop."
This is the last time I will explain a song simple enough most 5 year olds can understand it.
