I don't think recruiting pickups will help A&M's defense

We heard about how great the defense recruits were for A&M all offseason yet their defense is still a disaster and ranked toward the bottom of FBS.
I know they are young but A&M homers said they would contribute right away and make their defense good.
I think A&M's problem on defense is a combo of their offense not staying on the field long enough and bad coaching from Mark Snyder who doesn't know how to coach a good defense.

This should make your loss tomorrow all the more painful.

It'll take a few years..but they'll have a defense like LSU and Alabama usually have.

Our best LB is one of those true freshman. Some guys have talent but just arent physically ready for the SEC yet.

pretty ignorant statement by the OP.

Not convinced that their defensive coaching is top-of-the-line, but why don't we give defensive recruits more than a month and a half before writing them off. You know, just in case they improve over the course of their college career or something.

You mad bro?
I've seen nothing but love from the other fan bases on the pick up.

Depends on the new coach next year.

Er...you read carefully, bro? I was replying to the OP and saying that it's far too early say that the recruiting pickups are a failure. It would be construed as a mild support of A&M, actually.

I think you are incorrect.
At this point, any decent defensive recruit would help.
But that's just my opinion.

No they won't.
It is an identity concept; The up tempo teams are predicated on confusion and winning athletic battles on the perimeter. Guess what D they "confuse" the most? Their own on the practice field. Teams that are offensively based have a tentative D.
Bama and LSU are smash mouth physical teams. They are predicated on winning battles in the LOS. That's who they are. Unless A&M becomes a physical O their D will never be so.

This coming from a AU fan, who has been ranked near the bottom defensivly, the past few years

So if you switched Alabamas defensive players and defensive coaches with A&M's defensive players and coaches, A&M would still suck arse on Defense and Bama would be pitching shutouts?

Depends on the coach. Or even the era. Good coaches have been known to adjust to changing trends. But mostly depends on the coach. For example, the third member of that "smash mouth physical team" triumvirate in the SEC right now is Florida. You remember Florida under Urban? Eh...kinda smash mouth, as far as a modified spread can be smash mouth. So we can go back further. Florida under Spurrier? Fun-and-Gun? Nothing like Florida today.
So...depends on the coach. Granted, some universities, like Bama, have had the same basic identity for most of a century. But even the Bear went wishbone when it became smart to do so.

He's not an aTm fan, so this is a fail.
he's not an Auburn fan either, but seems to hate aTm a lot.

My favorite SECr posts are the ones where posters make unequivocal, "expert-like" comments regarding issues about which no one (except The Big Guy) has the slightest clue.

You have lots of thoughts. Do you have any evidence to support your theory?
Here's mine:
A&M's 2012 Stats
A&M's SEC Ranking per category:
Rushing Defense-7
Pass Efficiency Defense-7
Total Defense-9
Scoring Defense-7
Sacks-6
A&M's National Ranking per category:
Rushing Defense-35
Pass Efficiency Defense-39
Total Defense-57
Scoring Defense-26
Sacks-T-36
This Season:
National:
Rushing Defense-104
Pass Efficiency Defense-87
Total Defense-113
Scoring Defense-96
Sacks-120
Conference:
Rushing Defense-13
Pass Efficiency Defense-10
Total Defense-14
Scoring Defense-13
Sacs-14
You don't just go from being top 1/3 in the nation and middle of the pack in the SEC, to shitty and nearly dead last in every category from one season to the next for no reason. We had WAY more experience in the front 7 than we do right now. Snyder got Spencer Nealy to play WAY over his head last year. This year we have not had the players to put ANY pressure on opposing QBs, whereas last year we had pressure on at least one play per down set. See the stats on sacks.
Snyder is not the problem. Depth, youth, attrition, and injuries in the front 7 is.

ETA: Time of Possession
This year:
National -85
Conference -10
Ave. 28:25
Last year:
National -91
Conference -8
Ave. 29:01
That 36 seconds of extra possession per game takes our defense down 70+ spots? Really?
Now, you can go back to posting your baseless opinions.
