Not sure he would risk another failure in the NFL...doesn't give him enough control.
NFL draft is not like recruiting high school players and dealing with professional team members
is a whole different ballgame.

I would rather him stay, it is so much more satisfying beating Bama with him there.

I bet it is. That's something you've been able to experience twice in the last six meetings.

Alabama spent 10 yrs kicking ourselves in the balls with Dubose, Fran, and Shula that we turned over the entire program to Saban & let him fix it, Texas won't do that, they haven't sunk far enough.

This is where you are being naive. Texas might very well have sunk so low in the minds of UT faithful - so low to the point of needing Saban to take full control.

Doesn't mean the satisfaction is reduced my friend.

This. He's too intense to rally an NFL locker room behind him. The players making more money than him laughed him off the first go around.

They rallied around him for a 6 game win streak to close out 2005 and a 4 game win streak during the 2006 season. He was not a "colossal failure" in the NFL. He had a 15-17 overall record. They lost 7 games by one score. 20% of their games his defense gave up 13 points or less.

He did quite well considering the talent available to him (looking at you Sage Rosenfels & Cleo Lemons).

I can't imagine Saban wanting to rebuild a program. He would have to think the talent is in place and that it could be a quick turnaround. As football powers Bama is much better than Texas. I think he is more concerned about his legacy than the all mighty dollar. That would really be the only reason to go. Other than maybe the smothering fanbase in Tuscaloosa. I do think Texas will attempt to back up the truck and offer him a pile of money. If not they are dumber than I thought because in reality they should.

This job has indeed aged him like a US President. It's probably one of the most stressful & demanding jobs in college football. Add in that Saban is OCD & a detailed task master and he just ages more and more every season.

Saban makes a shitload of money now - when does he ever take the time to spend it? When does he EVER take time off the sit back and enjoy the millions Bama puts in his coffers? WHEN?

As a Bama fan I know you want to believe that and I agree he has a ton of money. But he might want more. I understood why he left LSU and why he left Miami as well. As far as winning I think Bama give him the best chance to do that. But he might like a challenge. And no matter what you might think Texas can offer more money.

Oh, I totally see where you are coming from. If Saban decides to leave Bama, I promise you it won't be because UT outbid us.

The man gets whatever the hell he wants for his program and for his players. He doesn't have to ask for shite at Bama. The administration asks him what he needs, what he wants, and what he envisions for his program and they open the checkbook. When Bama hires a new basketball coach, Saban interviews him. When the golf coach is recruiting a player for the golf team that they really want to get, they have Saban meet personally with the kid, etc. He is more than just the head football coach, and he knows it.

Has little to do with money.

Has everything to do with control. Texas is as bad as Auburn when it comes to backroom control over the football program. No seriously good coach will ever want to deal with that.

I think Texas is a huge step down. If Bama isn't the best job in the country its on the short list. Texas is a great job on paper but they never live up to expectations. Dodds would have to be gone for him even to consider it. And from what I have heard he is gone. I still think he is crazy if he leaves. It would take getting put on probation or losing scholarships which makes it tougher for him to be competitive for him to jump ship.

Congrats Rockford.

This is one epic thread of Bama paranoia!

Bottom line is he could win at UT in two years.

If Bama was so smart why didnt they hire him from MichSt like LSU did?

With the recent success of Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carol I could see some renewed interest in CNS. I could even see CNS having some second thoughts about ending his NFL career. It wouldn't surprise me to see back him in the NFL. No way he goes to Dallas.
