Is not looking much better this week. I'm not very confident in our ability to stop a competent offense. Hopefully Bama has some miscues.

Better get their shite together in practice this week or Bama is gonna roll us. I'm expecting BAS everywhere this coming week.

Seriously, Bama is going to push us around next week. The way our front looks, they might as well just cut the entire game and try to make a pile. Tht would be more effective than what I am seeing now.

It was highly uneven. We gave up the big play I think 3, maybe 4 times. Can't do that.

I think we'll be fine. Look for Jenkins to make a big impact. He's the general out there on defense now that J-Stew graduated. I bet our D will play well next weekend

Hopefully, traditionally we have a difficult time defending vertical passes (see LA Tech last year), but this time its the run defense and most of our conference foes have a strong run game.

Would be epic if we pulled out the win over Bama while tu gets blown out of their own stadium by Ole Miss

Last week we just got rolled. This week, it was 4 missed assignments that accounted for over half of the yards given up and all four touchdowns.

Our front 7 gives up 12 yard gains. Our safeties have been playing pretty terribly against the run, which is why these big plays keep occurring. Matthews looks like he got a lot worse over the offseason, and raven got hurt, so Honeycutt gets more PT. When we figure out our secondary, these 70 yard gains will not happen near as frequently.

Do we not have anyone who can play safety?

Miles?
Wiggins?
Davis?
Hurd?
Marshall?
WASHINGTON?

Anyone?

meh, really hard to judge. We have some talented young guys that make impressive plays but they also miss assignments. Missed assignments lead to huge plays. We give up too many of those for sure but we were missing 5 starters again. It sucks Raven is likely done for the year, but afaik, that's the only injury keeping anyone out this week.

It's just really hard to judge because others are having to do the mental work for them and cheat to help them. I feel like a guy like Donnie Baggs is playing below his capabilities. But before every single play he's having to bark out orders and keep everyone in the right gap. That's a lot of responsibility for a guy that has started 1 game coming into the year. These games were about other guys learning their assignment and Baggs getting more comfortable calling it. What worries me is the defense we ran was super vanilla. We didn't really practice the exotic stuff (though we did a bit last week).

But adding Obioha, Stansbury, and Jenkins into the front seven will go a long way. Getting our corners back so the safeties can be more committed to the run rather than trying to make sure we don't get burned is going to help as well. We aren't going to be great - no one ever thought we would be this year - but we're going to be a lot better.

btw according to the participation chart, Kenny Hill was only one who played this week for first time. So still redshirting....

RB - James White
WR - Kyrion Parker, Sebastian Larue
OL - Ishmael Wilson, Joas Aguilar and Jeremiah Stuckey (SO)
DL - Jordan Points, Justin Manning
LB - Reggie Chevis, Brett Wade,
DB - Vic Davis, Kam Miles

We trotted out a few guys several games into the season (Richardson, Alonzo) so not having played yet doesn't necessarily mean they won't.

It's just hard to make any real conclusions about this defense with so many variables.

You have suspensions, fish, new starters (Baggs), and we played two pretty decent offensive scrubs.

I don't think we will be as good as last year, but I think we will look a lot better as the year progresses.

So far, our best DT, DE, LB, CB, and Safety have hardly played. Raven is out for the year, and that is going to hurt, but we have options (thank you Toney Hurd).

The Alabama game is going to be interesting to say the least.

I have confidence in Coach Snyder and Coach Sumlin to get the job done with the player we have to work with. Plus, we have a stellar offense to take up any slack.
