Making the trip to Tiger Stadium this year (looking for input)

Long time lurker here mostly, but seeking input.
A buddy and I are going to make the trip to Tiger Stadium this year for the UF-LSU game. I've never been to Louisiana before, so looking for advice from any Tigers (or rivals who have made the trip before) about things to not miss out on while we're in the area. Flying in Friday late afternoon, flying out mid-Sunday afternoon, so hoping to hit some must-see spots Friday night and Sunday (knowing Saturday is dedicated to the infamous LSU tailgating scene... looking for advice on that, too, where to go and whatnot).
Way early for this, I know, but that's how much I'm looking forward to the trip already!

Depending on where you stay, spending the evening in the NOLA French quarter the Friday night before the game or the Saturday after the game would be a nice experience.

If you have never been to Louisiana, do yourself a favor and spend the weekend in New Orleans and just drive to BR for the game and then back as quickly as possible. You will still see all you need to of Baton Rouge and have much more fun.

Where are you staying?
New Orleans is about an hour away without traffic. I've never made the trip on gameday, but it would probably be worth it to stay in NO on Friday, drive up to BR in the morning and head back to NO that night, if you have a sober driver.

Not sure yet, most likely NOLA. Shopping around on that, too.

Get there early.... No, earlier than that.... Earlier..... keep trying..... If the sun is up, you are late. Thats how they roll in BR.
Try to find a group of cool folks to hang out with and ride it all day long. Last year was by far the best away trip I've ever taken.
Also, if you get a chance, and they have it up and going, check out Mud-Gate. I'd tell where you where it was but I got lost twice and had to get help finding my way back there.

Spoken like someone that has never done anything BUT follow the advice he just gave you. See my earlier post.

The staying in NOLA option is a good one, but you can have a damn good time in BR. Probably be a night game, so plan to tailgate your arse off around TS. Don't act like a douche and people will treat you right.....oh and go to the chimes to eat.

Sounds good. No plans on being a douche. Just want to have a good time. To be honest, LSU is my second favorite SEC team. I'm happy to see them take the NC when we can't, so I've no animosity.

You are right about that though. If I was leaving to set up my tailgate later than 5am, I was late.

NOla is a good suggestion and it is easy to get a room. I like Baton Rouge, eat at Sullivan's.

I had a ridiculous time at Mud-Gate. Partied there all day, then watched the game there that night. Yes, I drove all the way to BR and did not attend the game and would do it again. I had that good a time there.

I love NOLA, go 5-7 times a year, but for a quick trip like this I really would stay in BR.

I'm assuming its a tailgate because I sure never heard of a bar named that

Show up early, just walk around campus, people will be out there starting on Friday night. Just be friendly, people will invite you in and let you eat their food and drink. If people start chanting "tiger-bait" towards you, just smile and shake it off. Do not talk smack.
If you're college-aged, hit up Bogie's or Serrano's.
If need be, get on the Tiger Rant, let people know this is you're first time coming, some folks will let you know where they are.
If you'd like, you can email me cecilddiesel @ hotmail .com, closer to gameday, and I'll let you know my location, as we have multiple kegs and food at my tailgate.

If you don't find a tailgate at first, either Chimes or Walks Ons is great for drinks. If you are going to want to eat too, don't go to Walk Ons (overpriced food that isn't really that good at all)

Word.
Forgot to mention that.
Right next to Serrano's, where there are legions of hot women.
