How far do Bama/LSU fall when Saban/Miles retire?

Do they still stay at the top of the SEC or do they fall off a cliff like LSU did in the 90's and Bama in the early 2000's? If I had to pick, I would say Bama staying at the top(Unless probation) due to their history and money. LSU on the other hand I think would stumble until they got lucky again and found a diamond in the rough like Miles.

According to the SECr Les Miles is retarded and a Larry Coker clone so I imagine we'll be just fine.

Unless our AD just bombs on Miles successor, I don't see where we won't be able to find someone just as capable as Miles. We are a winning program in the SEC with an unreal amount of instate talent that makes recruiting seem fun instead of a job
Quality coaches will be lining up. We will be just fine

Well LSU has already been on an extremely slow, steady decline since 2005. It's quite obvious.

I think we'll be fine. Just need to hire a guy who's a proven recruiter and allow him to bring in top notch coordinators.
We're currently paying Chavis (DC) 1.1 million/year and I believe Cameron (OC) has a 3.4 million dollar contract for 3 years.

Because nobody ever heard of Alabama before Nick Saban came. He built this program from nothing.

hopefully we dont have to resort to hiring a coordinator.

I think the Saban loss will hurt Bama far more. First off, when you are at the top of the mountain it is hard not to fall off. Second, Saban is the best CFB coach of his generation so the odds of getting another one just as good are long. Bama is always going to be a power but the run of the last few years is just ridiculous and something that is unlikely to be continue forever.
Miles is a good enough coach, but he still makes his bones on recruiting more than great X's and O's. Any new coach LSU hires will have the inside track on the LA talent and still be able to go outside as well.
If you asked a few years ago I would have said UF was the least likely to drop off because they have endless money and the best recruiting base.
The truth is that amongst the Top 8 or so SEC schools it is going to be hard for anyone to stay on top forever, just too much competition and with scholarship limitations every team is a few bad breaks from falling. The more telling factor is what teams have the resources to get back up.

It'll be interesting to see if Bama's first hire post Saban will be as succcesful as LSUs was.

Both programs are two of the most powerful athletic programs in the country both financially and with the recruiting base. They will both hire big time coaches and continue being successful.

LSU would more than likely hire someone from the current staff, as this has worked to perfection in years past...
Alabama will most likely hire Barrett Jones, the scholarly man-child who will resume his role as media darling- AND become the youngest head coach in modern SEC history at 27.
We'll both be fine.

This. I highly doubt either school falls off a cliff. They may not be at the top every year like they are now but they will remain possible championship contending programs.

According to the SEC rant, a monkey could coach at both schools and win big

I see both programs staying strong. Not sure losing Miles would be that big of a loss for LSU. He is a good recruiter and has made some good staff hires and really, that seems to be enough at LSU right now. So no-drop off for LSU--at least not much.
For Bama, sure there will be a drop-off when one of the GOAT coaches leaves. Luckily, I see Saban coaching another decade before hanging it up--so this run may just keep going longer than any of our rivals would like to think. When Saban does retire after winning another 2-3 NC's--I think it will be key to either go out and get the best coach in the country at that time just like we did with Saban--or hire his clone AKA Kirby Smart in hopes that he is so familiar with the "system" that the drop-off will not be too bad. We already know Kirby is an elite recruiter, we know he knows defense, so if he can make good hires not sure why he wouldn't be successful at Bama.

Why is that funny? The guy is 61 and healthy. His contract runs into the 2020's. He has said many times that his job is football coach, his hobby is football. In his down time he sits at home and breaks down game film. He genuinely enjoys it. He has said he gets bored playing golf or fishing. The guy isn't going to just hit 65 and go sit on a dock at a lake until he dies, just not him. And with guys like Bowden and now Spurrier showing you can coach at the highest levels well into your late 60's and 70's, another decade really isn't that much of a stretch. Heck, could even be longer if he stays healthy. He isnt going anywhere any time soon....DWI
