A&M Fans - Why Do You Honor Bear Bryant When He Only Coached 3 Seasons at A&M?

Sure, he nearly won you a championship (Rice ended up beating you, throwing you out of title contention). And, he coached John David Crow to a heisman. Regardless, he only coached for 3 years. No national title...one Southwest Conference title. 3 great years...but still only three.
In my opinion, he just wasn't there long enough to justify honoring his name on your stadium. You have other coaches who've done more and demonstrated loyalty to the school by staying longer.
However, can you imagine what Bear would've done for A&M if he hadn't accepted the Alabama job in 1957? Damn...you were that close. That close.

Bear and Stallings are proof that A&M can't win anything big.

Because just like their one big win in 2012 their riding Bamas coattails.

To be fair, Rice was ranked #20 the year they beat A&M. They weren't a pushover team. Not to mention that the Alabama rumors started just before the Rice game and likely were a bit of a distraction.
Still, if A&M would've beaten Rice, they would've likely won a championship. All they had to do was beat Rice...just like all Mizzou had to do was beat Oklahoma in 2007 or beat Kansas in 1960.

The factors you mentioned, combined with "Junction Boys" lore imo.

Always kind of been curious myself why other aggies care about him so much. He did less for TAMU than Saban did for LSU...

Sure. But only three years.
I guess it seems odd (to me) because when most people see the name Bear Bryant, they usually associate him with Alabama.
To see Bear's name on A&M's stadium just seems odd.

The reason I started this thread is because I was looking at the A&M stadium expansion plans. I admit that I was taken back when I saw the name "Paul Bear Bryant" on the stadium.
Just threw me for a loop, I guess.

Because he is Bear Bryant. Junction boys. John David Crow.
Pretty simple.
Pretty simple.

Alright. Fair enough.

<---- does not care about Bear Bryant, only cares about Kevin Sumlin.

...I still can't let it go.
Why wouldn't you just put John David Crow's name on the stadium instead of Bryant's name?

I am not convinced his name will be on the actual stadium, but who knows.

Wouldn't you rather Crow's name be on there than Bryant's name?
I guess I wouldn't care if I were an Aggie.
However, I believe out-of-town visitors to your stadium would understand Crow more so than Bryant.

If they put up Crow then they should also put up Manziel.
They are probably waiting on some news before they announce anything like that that...

Wouldn't you want your program to be associated with a legend? Kind of where the legend starts. Junction boys and all.

Exactly. They don't want to set the precedent with JDC.

No. Bryant became a legend at Bama, not aTm. It's almost like they're taking credit for starting him off...

I am not convinced most out of town visitors know who the hell Crow is. Count me in the group that doesn't really care though.
I definitely don't think it's "ridiculous" or anything to have Bryant's name on there. Growing up and during my time at A&M, the "Junction Boys" was a pretty big story and he was a big name.

We hold on to what small blips of success we have in our otherwise bleak football history. Thanks for reminding me, a-hole.
