blunt the issue. make it seem like it is a nonstory that was dealt with months ago. get it out of the headlines. no one is talking about USCe, USCw, or U of L right now. They've deadened the issue. A&M not killing it makes it appear to be a story. Leaving it open for interpretation of the masses means that you aren't controlling the story.

My concern would just be as an Aggie fan if a player with serious questions about his eligibility was just allowed to play right away. I think holding him out a few games for the NCAA to finish their investigation would go a long way to protect them down the road.:

If you care, based on the people I've talked to, we're not going to do that and we feel fully protected in proceeding like this. It's why we brought in Lightfoot, Franklin & White. They've apparently explained exactly what I did. If we have no knowledge, we have to assume innocence.

There's actually greater risk on the other side (from the Manziels) if he's suspended without cause because it could cost them a fortune (potential awards like a 2nd Heisman which makes his brand even stronger, endorsements down the line, questions from the NFL). And A&M would really have no ground to stand on since we had no cause to suspend. It's a delicate situation.

Did OSU have any games between the three Bryant played in and October 7th?

yes, he was held out with injury for the Sept 26th game vs FCS Grambling State. There is some speculation that the vultures were already circling and this was a smokescreen but no one ever confirmed to my knowledge.

Even though he's the best college football player to ever play the game, there is no way he wins another Heisman.

Without a doubt. Which is why I think proceeding with caution is the appropriate course of action.

I'd just be more concerned with the NCAA feeling as though A&M ignored the signs pointing toward his ineligibility more than some unprecedented civil lawsuit by the Manziel's in which proving damages would be virtually impossible (because unlike the NCAA, the Manziel's WOULD have to prove their claims in court).

As for Lightfoot, Franklin & White, I know Aggie Nation loves talking about how they represented sCam, but they also represented Penn State in the biggest arse raping by the NCAA of all time, and Jim Tressel, who cannot coach in college to this day.

If JM plays before October, I will reconsider the respect I have for Sumlin's intelligence.

This isn't a moral issue, but if Sumlin jeopardizes the future of the A&M program by playing someone with serious questions about his eligibility like JM has right now, he just isn't as smart as I always gave him credit for.

Blast me all you want. Book mark this, cause I will, but I give JM a 5% chance at playing before October unless the NCAA specifically clears him because I think Sumlin is not an idiot

Nice pump and hedge

Manziel gets benched, A&M isnt a threat in the SEC. Manziel plays, and Sumlin is an idiot.

Well done

A&M is fine. If anything, they can express that they were already distancing themselves from the problem child (photoshoppers, anyone), but they are still vying for establishing no foul, no penalty for Manziel.

If they can't beat Rice or Sam Houston State with a backup QB, then they have bigger problems.

I would hope we could beat them just running a wildcat type formation the whole game.

LSU doesn't play A&M until November, so I could give a shite if he plays early or not.

And if A&M can't go 4-1 until October even without JM, Sumlin will lose my respect anyway

Seriously, A&M and Sumlin have very little to lose sitting him until the bye week to let the investigation play out so that the NCAA can't blast them for playing him despite all of the signs that he may be ineligible. They'll be 4-1 regardless.

Honestly what concerns you doesn't really matter.

A&M has no knowledge on the issue that the NCAA does not have. If the NCAA doesn't feel like there is sufficient evidence to warrant a suspension, then clearly A&M can not be held to an omniscient standard.

An open investigation simply does not constitute a violation and the NCAA has never treated it as such.

A&M fans are probably out plotting to put drugs in our players cars or locker rooms.

Not to mention their back up has only thrown 11 passes in a game and the rest of their qb's have 0.
