Scheduling Southern Miss

Why doesn't Bama, Ole Miss or Miss State ever schedule USM anymore? Even though they went winless last season, they are still overall a solid football program who has very good fan support. Seems to me the Mississippi schools or Alabama would be more interested in playing them than Div 1AA schools

Check out State's 2014/2015 Schedule.

these games are lose-lose situations for these teams
You gain nothing for beating them and lose everything for losing to them

I know obviously that Ole Miss and Miss St get all the attention in the state, but how much coverage does Southern Miss get?

About the same as MGCCC.

Southern Miss probably wants more money than some FCS directional school. They aren't good enough that you get credit for playing them and they aren't bad enough that is a glorified scrimmage. It is a lose/lose.

It would have been last year.

USM is welcome to play in Oxford anytime they want. Problem is, they want a return trip. No thanks. Not gonna prop up that program and head to the Hub City. Since you brought up this question....why not ask the same of our other SEC schools like say Arkansas not playing Arkansas St. or LSU not playing La. Tech or Tulane......

This is the best english you've put together to date.

I was living in Tuscaloosa at the time the series ended and I heard from several in the University that "USM wanted a return trip so bad they ended the series themselves"
TIFWIW.

I'm not sure where you got that idea. Even in '11 when they went 12-2, they never came close to a sellout for home games.

We played them every year for nearly 30 years. They wanted to end the series. So we did.
