Aggies gave LSU no end of grief for dropping the extension of the series in the 90s due to going to an 8-game conference schedule after SEC expansion to 12 teams.
The SEC went to an 8 game schedule in 1992. LSU ended the series after 1995 and five-straight opening weekend losses.
So after three years, someone in the LSU front office finally said "Holy chit, Boudreaux, we'd bin plahyin' dees Ahgeeze da firs week for tree dam yeahrs and we don' got anotha SEC con-test we gotta play!"

My point was you didnt schedule unneccesary pitfalls. You already had the tough FSU and SEC games to bolster your resume and it worked.
I agree with you there. But I do think you need one big time matchup. We could have done without Miami.

This^^^...along with LSU you are witnessing the pussification of the SEC West
Yea except for the part where LSU man's up and schedules OCC top 25 teams almost every season and will continue (TCU, UW,OU, ASU) in the future. Thanks for worrying about us though.

I hope the rest of the AU fanbase doesn't agree with you b/c your comments come off that AU is too chickensh!t to play anybody good outside of SEC play.
Thats fine. Bowl committess dont look at teams that are "too chickenshit" to play a decent team. They look at teams with wins and who will put butts in seats. The playoff will look at overall SOS and the SEC will cover that for all of us...so the only ppl who think AU is "too chickenshit" dont really have any say.

1/10. Honestly, I miss the Arky trolling. They were entertaining. You aTm fans are rather pathetic.

Dropping Oregon and USC is a strong indication that the SEC will probably be going to a 9 game schedule very soon.
As a result, the Aggies will want to lower their sights to 2nd. tier OOC BCS programs to lighten their overall load in seasons where they will be matched up against one of the big-3 programs from the SEC East.
In seasons when they get Tennessee, Missouri, Vanderbilt, or Kentucky, (traditional matchups Bama is well known for) they could then schedule a 1st-tier OOC BCS program.

Gerry said he couldn't build a program starting the season 0-1. Truth.

with the number of big time OOC rivalry games at the end of the year the SEC/ACC has, I don't see any way that could be accomplished. SC/CU, UGA/GT, UF/FSU are gonna go down in late november after everyone else has their OOC schedule rapped up.
I certainly respect all of those games like ND/USC etc
Maybe the 2nd and 3rd week of the year are all the big OOC games and then you can do whatever you want with bye weeks etc. I know it isn't perfect, and is probably far from so, but figuring out weeks and having the SEC figure out a schedule first seems like it is a lot of work to try and fit a square peg into round holes

An early loss out of conference to a Top 10 doesn't really hurt you.
Imagine this scenario, TEAM A losses by 7 the first week of the season to #4 ranked team in the nation. (TEAM opponent goes on and wins their respected conference 11-1) SEC record 6-2 Overall record 9-3. (8 TV games)
TEAM B beats New Mexico St. University the first week of the season by 42. (New Mexico ST finishes 7-5) SEC record 6-2 Overall record 10-2 (7 TV games)
In my opinion TEAM A is more appealing to the Bowls b/c of body of work. Bowls want teams that travel well and have good TV ratings

This seriously needs a separate thread. Those hypocritical Aggies gave us hell for years about that and now they are doing the same freaking thing. Funny how that works out.

I'd really like to see consistent schedules mandated across all conference.... 9 conference games + at least 1 OOC game against a BCS Opponent.
This would create a lot more good matchups, and would create consistency heading into the four team playoff selection.

Had Bama lost to UM, it would have kept them out of the BCSCG. Also, had you lost to ORegon in 2011, they would have prob gone to the BCSCG that year over yall with the same record...or OSU would have. You never really know.

Then their body of work is irrelevant.

That would be interesting if the NCAA mandated that. The smaller schools would never allow it though bec they lose thier paydays.

I'd fully agree with something like this, and then designate the 2nd week of every season as BCS vs. BCS week and everyone matches up. That should be easy

No shite. Not to mention A&M ran away from Texas after they lost 9 out of 12 to Texas.
A&M have been dishing this crap out for years and now they get butt hurt when this is said b/c did the exact same thing.

Not the same thing but just in case you think it is.
ETA: if you did cancel the series because of new SEC scheduling requirements, it would look exactly like what A&M just did - IN ADVANCE OF THE REQUIRED SCHEDULING CHANGE. Not, you know, three years after the fact.

They took a risk they didnt need. Had Bama lost to UM, they would have had 2 losses and not played for the title. It was a risk that was unneeded. They could have easily played a crap team and still gotten the goal they were seeking.
This is just retarded. Took a risk they didn't need? We don't need college football, but we like it for its entertainmlent value.
I understand the little brother pressure Auburn's under, basically do anything you cam to win a championship, but some of us just like to watch entertaining college football games on autmn Saturdays.
You must be one of those fans obsessed over the post season and can't wait for it to get here - before the regular season even starts.
I hate fans like you.
