HUFFMAN, TX (KTRK) -- A pregnant mother was arrested and is facing charges, accused of trying to give away her toddler through a Craigslist ad.
Prosecutors say they've never seen a case like this one before. While the mother awaits her day in court, we're told the child has been placed with a relative.
quote:
The ad read, "Hi, I'm trying to adopt out my 3yr old son. I'm not in a good place in my life and don't feel like I can care for him properly but I don't know where to start. If you or know anyone who is interested in caring for him, please let me know. I'm a single mom and can't do this. Thanks, Desperate."
"If you're putting it on Craigslist, anybody -- the highest bidder or whoever the mother deems appropriate to give the child to -- that's where the kid goes," explained Harris County Assistant District Attorney David Abrams. "There's no government regulation on it."
Because this happened in cyberspace, it wasn't immediately clear to prosecutors what charge would be filed. For now, it's advertising for placement of a child. That's a misdemeanor, but the charges could be upgraded.

i'm going to say i don't know what the problem is here unless she was being negligent while the baby was in her stead.

At least she realized she was a terrible parent

Really?
Trying to get rid of a 3 yr old child on Craigslist seems ok?

It's not ok but I wouldn't send her to jail for it

Feel like she has good intentions just doesnt know how to go about it.

Child endangerment?
That child could have ended up with some pedophile.

What would you sentence her to?

Whatever the Tx statute allows for child endangerment.

Fair enough. I agree with earlier poster. Good intentions. Horrible execution. She had to have known better than this though.

What makes it sadder, is that she's pregnant again.

why not? we let them abort them in the womb an most of society sees that as a right.
i'm moderately trolling. I find it hypocritical to prosecute a woman doing this where as 3 years and 9 months ago it'd have been fine legally to abort the baby. society wants their cake and to eat it to.

Gotcha. Understand what you're saying. And yeah, society does have double standards in the name of convenience.

I agree with the above posts stating she had the right intentions just didn't know how to go about doing it properly. This is sad, but at least she loves her kid enough to realize that she is not the best parent for him.

Oddly enough, her plan worked; someone took her son. So she's either a complete idiot, or a genius
Good luck to the boy (and the baby to be)
