After being defeated 38-7 by the Crimson Tide in 2012, Mississippi State was hosting Texas A&M with their best start, record-wise, since 1999.

State proceeds to get demolished by Johnny Football and goes 1-5 to finish the season, including a bowl defeat by a minor Big 10 opponent and a win over lowly Arkiesaw.

In 2013, Merlin's fifth year, is there reason for hope? Or has MSU hitched their wagon to a coach running a Tebow offense in a non-Tebow world?

State will never be successful if they aren't the best team in their own state. That is simple. Freeze > Merlin.

I'll resist the urge to flame here.

I think State really struggles this year but I also think they're building their program the right way.

Before you can win 9 or 10 games consistently, you have to win 6 or 7 and then 7 or 8.

While I think Mullen is a choad, he is doing as well as any coach has EVER done in Starkville.

Now, I must insert both a and a #WEBELIEVE

Is our reason for hope, what?

The effort in the Texas A&M game was pathetic. The fans should have been reimbursed for gas money to the game that day. I brought friends from Memphis, and I was about as disgusted as I've ever been walking out of that stadium.

Tim Tebow 2.0 has about a 50% chance to show up on campus this fall... Well, more like a 25% percent chance, but I am still hoping.

One game in Houston on opening Saturday has the ability to change the entire perception around MSU back to positive.

We'll be a better team than we were last year. Probably won't see it in records, but will see it in the nature of the games played and the end of year statistics. Bookmark it and let me know when I'm wrong.

Still think that the year we move up am actual tier is 2014 -- in the new stadium with the first true dual threat in the starting lineup and a lineup full of 4th and 5th yr players.

Mullen is a clown who is a decent coach but has made a name by beating bottom feeders and relying on gimmicks.

I started a nice thread about them going 0-3 in a certain stretch. But the 1-5 one is great too.

You talk a lot of shite for a fan of a team who has a humongous bullseye on their QB. You better hope your o line can hold back a continuous onslaught of defensive backs intent on anally penetrating your QB and snapping his spine into pieces. Then we will see what that one trick pony offense will look like.

This is Mississippi State football. They're never going to be that good. Fans should be happy with bowl games.

We have yet to find a Tebowesque type QB. I'm giving Mullen the rest of Dak's career. If he can't win with Dak, I don't think he'll win with anyone.
