Which was why they fired him so quickly. They were still able to recruit very well, so they weren't completely off the mat. Not like Tennessee is now.

Urban Meyer did the same thing Spurrier did in 1/10 the time. And beat the sheep shite out of people doing it.
Spurrier was basically the one who started running up the score in this conference.
If you're judging by national titles alone, then yeah, Meyer was the better coach. But for long term success, conference domination and building a program, Spurrier was better no question. I'm sure most UF fans would agree.

I was talking about the 2 seasons where Urban Meyer and Will Muschamp, relative to the success of the prime of the Meyer years, failed to meet expectations. Not now. I should've been more clear. But I'm fairly young. Old enough to remember though how freaking annoying and crafty his offenses were. I remember watching that 96 championship. I have never seen anything like that. Ever. It was ridiculous. I guess I'll just say that Meyer is only slightly above spurrier. It just seemed that every time spurrier did lose a game, he got CRUSHED. I know that wasn't always the case but you know what I mean.

This might be a testament to the Vols current woes but....grabbing a Vandy might result in an arse whoopin...just sayin.

You have one game to win, who is your coach:
Spurrier or Saban?
Spurrier or Saban?

They're both pretty good. Equally talented teams? I'd go with Coach Saban.

If Spurrier wins one title at SC, he will have won a title at two different SEC schools, lifting both from mediocrity to the top.
Saban's already done that. Except he did a 3 of 4 at the second school.

People could argue (and probably will) that USC was nowhere near mediocre before SOS arrived. And Alabama will always be Alabama. They were a blue-blood top 5 program all-time before Saban. LSU had a rough time in the '90s but were still considered a top flight program.

I don't think a lot of people fully understand how historically bad South Carolina was in football.

I don't know how much stock I'd put into the past. The past didn't help Alabama between Stallings and Saban (one SEC title with Dubose notwithstanding).
I was referring to the "state of the program" when Spurrier arrived at UF and USC, and Saban at LSU and Alabama.
I have no doubt that having "tradition" at Alabama makes certain things easier when recovering--but I doubt seriously Julio Jones cared much about Bama's glory days as he would have been born around 1990?
I'm just saying--Spurrier had the "best coach since Bear Bryant" mantle until Saban won his second title (and first at Bama). If Saban stopped after '09 (and didn't win in '11 and '12) and Spurrier were to win at USC, I'd give the nod do Spurrier.

That 11 win ring in 2011 was well earned. I never made fun of it.
Now that 2012 one ...it's been done guys.

Oh I think we have a legitimate shot as long as Richt stays at Georgia. Automatic "W" for us.

Would you consider one National Title at South Carolina more impressive than Saban's current stint at Alabama?
No, but dominating the SEC in the 90s and then winning a NC at USC in the 10's would be collectively more impressive
