UGA ran the ball down Clemson's throat! OMG! so #impressive
Posted by MC Ride on 9/8/14 at 12:26 am
Stop me if you've heard this before:
The football season is still young, only a couple of weeks in. Georgia, led by their "Heisman candidate" (see: Aaron Murray, Gurley) gets a ton of praise from the press and on message boards, leading to a Top 10 ranking and the Week 1 National Championship. Then, as the season progresses Georgia fails to live up to everyone's expectations.
I realize Clemson is a defensive Powerhouse, look how good they were stopping the run in 2013:
vs. Georgia - 222 yards allowed
vs. NC State - 165 yards allowed
vs. Syracuse - 323 yards allowed
vs. FSU - 121 yards allowed
vs. South Carolina - 140 yards allowed

Whoever scores more points in the second half will win this game.
Aaron Murray is the most overrated player in the nation

I've been saying it for 4 years now

Yes, but I've also been on SECRant, where I've seen Georgia fans refer to Mark Richt as the "Second Coming of Bear Bryant" and Aaron Murray as "the best college QB since Tim Tebow."

Its 26 hours until kickoff and the delusion emitting from Pickens County is palpable.
Tennessee and South Carolina: Inverse Relationship?
Posted by MC Ride on 5/23/13 at 3:36 pm
Things began going south for Tennessee in 2008. Two seasons later, South Carolina won the SEC East. Tennessee has continued to finish in the second half of the East since then, while SC has remained near the top of the East.
Why? A lot of it has to do with shared recruiting grounds. IIRC, before Tennessee's downfall, they used to pull many top recruits out of South Carolina and North Carolina. Today, those recruits that want to play for a top SEC team and be somewhat close to home would've gone to Tennessee in years past. Now they go to South Carolina.
Additionally, the recruits from Florida and Georgia that are willing to leave their home state for another SEC program would have once chosen Tennessee. Nowadays, SC is a popular destination, like Tennessee once was, for those recruits that don't mind leaving Florida or Georgia. Mind you, I'm not talking about the 5 star recruits. Those typically go to Bama/LSU if they wish to leave Florida or Georgia at all. I'm talking about 4 star and high 3 star recruits that don't mind playing out of state.
Now, I'm well aware that poor coaching hires is one of the main reasons for Tennessee's lack of recent success, just as Steve Spurrier is one of the main reasons South Carolina has been so successful.
However, having shared recruiting areas is almost as important as the coaching hires made by the two schools. Remember, Spurrier had been at SC for five seasons before they had any amount of success. Tennessee falling off the college football map surely helped propel SC to the top of the SEC East.
Agree? Disagree?

Get rid of the permanent cross-division opponent and start the rotation again.
We'd see a lot less threads on the Rant.

Wow, what a surprise, Alabama and Georgia have cupcake schedules AGAIN.
I'm starting to believe that the SEC only cares about TV viewers for the SEC Championship game, not fairness and competition.

Alabama did not deserve to be in the National Championship game last season.
Sure, they stomped Notre Dame, but Bama didn't deserve to be there in the first place.
Bama only got to the SEC Championship game because A&M had to play Florida. A team that loses on it's home field, like Bama did, should never play for a National Championship.
Beating Georgia in Atlanta is not justification enough for deserving a shot at the National Championship, because Georgia played an even weaker schedule than Alabama.
When you are 5 yards from getting beat by a team that lost to South Carolina by 28 points, you should not play for a National Title.
Alabama was chosen to play for the National Championship because of their name.

Tajh Boyd is for real
Funniest post I've ever read on the Rant.
Face it, if LSU runs the ball at the end of the Chick-fil-a bowl to run out the clock instead of three straight passes, you wouldn't be saying that.
Plus does anyone here believe that LSU was 100% motivated for that game? LSU is used to playing in National Championships and BCS bowls, I seriously doubt that they were playing to the best of their abilities in a meaningless bowl game.
Steve Spurrier has patented the strategy to beat Clemson's hurry-up, pedal to the metal offensive scheme: keep them off the field. SC runs the ball against Clemson's weak defense. Then, SC uses every last second of the play clock, nearly every down.
After long, half-quarter drives, Clemson's offense is unable to maintain any semblance of a rhythm. It also helps when all Tajh can think about is getting plowed into the ground by #7.
Steve Spurrier is in Clemson's head. Clemson will not beat SC any time soon.

on what grounds do you do so?
Constantly underachieving, despite being the only real team in one of the best high school states in the country.
Georgia has achieved about as much as Clemson has during the last 30 years. That's inexcusable.
But don't fire him. The rest of the SEC loves Mark Richt coaching at Georgia.

Now if they would only fire Richt, Georgia might have a decent athletics department.

If you don't see an unfair advantage between these bridge schedules, you don't want to.
You're leaving out South Carolina in all your posts, when they've been the best team in the SEC East for the last 3 seasons.
South Carolina didn't represent the East in the SEC Championship game the past two seasons because of the bridge schedules. UGA was supposed to play Bama last season, and South Carolina was supposed to play Miss St, per the cross-divisional rotation.
But no, the SEC just decided to let UGA play Ole Miss at home and made SC play LSU in Baton Rouge. Despite SC destroying Georgia in both their meetings in the past two seasons, Georgia fans still claim superiority and that scheduling had nothing to do with it. They are that delusional.
The SEC has allowed Bama and Georgia to both have easy cross-division opponents for two straight seasons. It reeks of the SEC trying to get the most viewers for the SEC Championship game.

All this to decide the second best team in the SEC East?
Seems excessive.

Nope, that'll happen after Georgia loses to Clemson and South Carolina to begin this coming season.
