It doesn't count if I can't name a single player from your school's football program

What position group is your school known for?
It would probably be easier for me to tell you what Alabama is not known for. Quarterbacks, wide receivers, and safeties. Pretty stout everywhere else historically.

Linebackers, but we do have three SuperBowl winning QBs.

The only NFL game I watch is the Super Bowl. I have no idea who Derek Sherrod is.

Oh good gosh yes. And I don't know why I didn't include him because I was thinking about him and when his knee was torn to pieces against Tennessee while I was making the post. But Andre is one of my all-time favorite players and one of the nicest, most genuine people, to ever wear the Garnet and Black. A big-hearted guy, good-hearted guy.

Amazing how Alabama went from being THE school for Super Bowl winning quarterbacks to a program that wins titles in spite of their QB's. AJ is the exception, but before him, we won national championships with weak performances by Shealy, Jay Barker, and McElroy.
But for those of us who grew up watching Broadway Joe and the Snake under center, or Bart Starr a few years earlier, we still think of great QB's at Bama. It will be remarkable if AJ McCarron surpasses those great names by winning a third title.

Kentucky's punting is exquisite... Or at the very least, well versed.

Bart Starr was my hero when I was a kid. Probably more for playing for Lombardi and the Packers than for playing at Bama, but he certainly represented Bama well and drew a lot of attention to them. But yeah, Broadway Joe, The Snake ... but I think you are short changing Jeff Rutledge, Steadman Shealy, Richard Todd, (and what was that other QB on that team?), Steve Sloan and Pat Trammell who was the first real Bama QB I remember actually playing for Bama.

I played Nerf football with Richard Todd once as a kid. He had a house in Mobile at the time.
You're right, I could have mentioned more, but from around 1980 to 2010 it was pretty bleak. There were a couple of bright spots - Walter Lewis, Brodie Croyle - but it was baffling why we couldn't get top notch QB's to come to Bama.
The most memorable QB play to me (other than David Palmer lining up under center) was the 15 minute 8 yard TD scramble by Freddie Kitchens against Ole Miss. I think every player for the Rebels hit him at least twice. lmao

One of this is not like the other. Are you Freddie Kitchens?
