As I understand it, you all don't have much baseball tradition. Has the athletic department made it a priority to invest in new baseball facilities, coaching, etc.? It has to be tough to come from a conference where nobody gives a shite about baseball to the number one conference in the country.

they do have a national title in their tradition...

They're improving the facilities. Most of us will take a while to give two shits about it.

Ah yes, I lost my copy of the Mizzou talking points.

Just make it legal for students to drink in the outfield and support will take off.

I think we're the "beneficiary" of having Anheuser Busch in the state. A lot of their "responsible drinking" proposals get pretty quick acceptance at Ole Mizzou.

See sig text, then feel shame for your stupidity.
Missouri is full of baseball talent, now that Mizzou is in the SEC and committing to all sports, you'll see more of that talent come to MU over places like MO state and other good baseball schools in our state.

Yes, part of the capital campaign for facility improvements is for baseball. Hopefully fans will support it.
One issue we have is weather. Baseball season starts in February, and Feb and March can still be pretty cold here. We had to cancel some games because of snow. Fans here just don't go out to watch a 3pm game when it's 35 degrees. As it warms up, more people come to the games. The other issue we have is the Cardinals. That's Missouri's baseball team, no question. Because by the time it's warm enough to be outside and enjoy games, the Cards season has started too.
I'm hoping this SEC move will have a positive impact on our baseball program and that we see it improve in a few years. We were decent in the Big 12. We aren't in the SEC. There's work to be done.

MU gets better players than SMS usually. It's Guttin getting lucky on guys like Howard, Marcum (transferred in from MU), Hart, Zeigler, Rheinecker, etc. MU stops recruiting them because of scores or drafts. SMS also hits JUCO hard, which MU doesn't, but Pratte may change that now.

They're putting money into the facilities. None into a coach yet. I'm sure TJ will get a couple of years in the SEC before any decisions are made about whether or not he's made for the job in the SEC. Everyone expects us to not win much this year, so I think he'll get next year as well at least.
My biggest beef has been the University's lack of putting money or effort into promoting the team. I'm in St. Louis and while there's a good amount of football and basketball talk, I can tell you I have heard ZERO mentions of the baseball team on the radio.
The University initially blocked the COMO radio station from streaming games online because they wanted everyone to pay $10/month to listen to games. Problem with that is, if you have a product like LSU or SC, you can get away with that. If you have a populous that knows nothing about your team because you don't promote it, they'll never pay for it and your not reaching out and getting your product to the people to create the demand.

The JUCO kids are the only ones hitting to start this season. That's changed a bit since we played some Div 2 school now though.

I seriously think baseball is a losing effort in Missouri. There's too many major/minor league teams to take the real baseball enthusiast money in the state. If they're going to market the team, the support and money needs to go to Columbia/Jeff City. I don't see a whole ton of people ever coming from KC/STL for baseball.
Drinking sections in the outfield, as was mentioned before, with a little local marketing is probably the key.

I think Evan will be next HC at SMS but if the MU job is offered Jill will make him stay there.
Evan is a great baseball guy and it was mistake by Jamieson taking him off the field IMO
Best thing and worst thing for SMS was moving from Meador Park. We used to lead nation in bombs, but it was 385 truthfully in CF. but playing in AA stadium that's >10 yrs old makes it attractive.

The baseball stadium is on campus, and campus is officially dry. They can get around it in the suites they're building, but I don't see them allowing drinking in the general seating areas.
And yes, I know it's stupid because there are places on campus you can drink (Alumni Center) and they completely ignore it for football (but not inside the stadium unless you're in the suites.)

Don't think they really need much STL/KC support to improve the baseball atmosphere.
Needs more support from people living on campus, and mid-missouri people wanting to see good baseball. We'll never match the 10k plus ballparks in the SEC, shouldn't even strive for that.
Weather will always hold back attendance, but won't necessarily hold back the program. Making MU the flagship baseball school in the state can be huge for getting our in state talent.

It seems like they would be able to segregate the sports park (or anything south of Stadium Blvd) for the dry campus purposes.
I doubt the reactor folks are slamming 40 oz Old English in the car before heading inside.
If the SEC is going to require us to give somewhat of a shite about baseball, drinking is the way to make it happen.
Hell, most pro baseball fans go to games for an excuse to drink.
