Not really. Considering in the hecklers mind Chizik wasn't going to win anything. We all can't have it both ways and blame Chizik for the failures. Yet give Chizik little to no credit for the NC. I really don't give two shits about the heckler. He was a dumb arse initially and is a dumb arse today.

On a serious note about basketball replacements, I don't know much about recruiting or anything other than basic rules. How important is it to hire a regional guy or do you recruit cross country?
Not a lot of rising talent in the mid majors in the south east (probably because we aren't basketball states). Would it be so bad to pull guys who have connections to the NYC area and north east?

Auburn needs to throw the bank at a top notch coach..
Auburn football is a household name..
With that being said, go after a big name coach to see if they can turn the program around and make it into what football is. In the long run a big time coach will be able to see the problem, fix it, and leave a blueprint for future coaches.. Frick up and comers we dont need that.. Go after Butlers coach, creighton, st johns, marquette..

Do that all you want, they're not coming here.

I don't think a coach's salary is the limiting factor in hiring a good coach. Our program is shite, we do not have a good recruiting base and our fanbase is passive at best. Our students show out but rarely.
I don't know everything about CBB but I do know that all those coaches you suggested are in better positions than AU at more prestigious BBall schools.
Butler's coach has been highly sought after by everyone (way better than AU) and he hasn't left/ the school is passionate and die hard about their basketball right now and he loves it.
St Johns and Marquette are in the Big East. That is the SEC of basketball and they are holding their own. Why would they leave to come to AU?
Creighton is a basketball school and their coach ain't leaving.
Look, we are going to have to take a chance on some up and comer who has had moderate success. Tony Barbee was a way hotter commodity than we should have been able to hire and the guy has failed. What coach wasn't to go to a place that is a career killer, doesn't care about BBall unless football is losing that doesn't have good recruiting?

Start looking at midlevel A10, Colonial and MVC type coaches.
Or look to coaches like Rick Stansbury or so on. We are getting a washout or a guy looking for a jump but isn't a hot commodity yet
Consideing Rick Stansbury's ability to at least get MSU to postseason play at a shithole like MSU, I would love that hire. MSU had almost zero history in postseason play before he stepped on campus. Making the tournament a few years would at least build us into a respectable program if we wanted to get rid of him later

Murray state's coach! I love the way they play and he's been very successful.
I will preach his name until we hire him. Steve Prohm!
He's getting paid 300,000 + incentives at Murray state. I think we can do a lot better than that.
Edit: Barbee is getting paid 1.5 million so we can definitely do better than that.

You really don't know how this works, do you?
NONE of those guys would ever dream of leaving Auburn.
Auburn always gets up and coming coaches from the mid majors.
Best realistic coach hire would be Prohm from Murray State.
Best fantasy hire would be Brad Stevens, I guess...
That's too funny. I hope you don't actually believe Auburn could pull that off with little basketball history and only a brand-new arena to draw kids in.

Butler made two bavk to back NCAA tourny championships but sure their coach will leave for the shithole program in AL

If you are gonna dream, dream big!
I just stopped in to say: I have no idea who the next coach should be. All I know is that we need a new one.

and Butler is joining the Big East (the seven remaining teams) next season... not that Stevens would ever consider it regardless.
We gotta hope to hire the NEXT Brad Stevens... or billy donavon, etc... if we make the right hire, we have the resources to keep him.

To be fair, Butler wasnt some powerhouse program before Brad Stevens. Wasnt he like a coaching assistant then got promoted? He was basically unheard of. Point is Butler got lucky. Auburn needs to get lucky with the right coach.

I agree that is why I got my names from the top 25 coaches in CBB today for the money you pay them...Forbes. I don't know hardly enough to even know up and comers. I can name a few of the top ones is all.

Rick Stansbury
Stansbury would be more frustrating than Lebo/Barbee.
He had a ridiculous amount of talent at Mississippi St. only for his teams to 1) not make the NCAA tourney or 2) get put out in the first round. His teams constantly underperformed.
Get Stansbury out of your collective minds.

They were making sweet sixteens while he was an assistant at Butler.

I don't know how Jacobs, as terrible as he is, can justify keeping Barbee if we end the year losing 15 of 16 in his third season. There are no words to describe that kind of meltdown.
But it is Jay Jacobs. I've prepared myself to be disappointed.

How many hires has Jay Jacobs made that were universally bad when the news broke?
Hint: It's more than zero and less than two.
