Bo

Bo by a nose. I say this because he played his position. Deion didn't tackle or attempted such poor tackles it was widely known that it was his weakness.

No offense, but I don't buy that shite for a second. As already stated, Deion avoided tackling, and obviously, that's a huge part of football. He was great at covering no doubt, but when you puss out on half your game (tackling) it drops his value considerable, imho.
I say Bo knows..

I covered them both and they are both hilarious in their own way. Bo had a giant shlong and rarely left his room in college outside of football. Women just came and went. When he talked to the media, he always talked in 3rd person: "I have to do what's best for Bo Jackson..." I finally started talking to an imaginary Bo Jackson next to him once whenever he did it and asked the other Bo questions. He did not have a clue what I was doing, but everyone else did.
Deion, when he was with the Braves, he would come out of the locker room one day with cheap sweats on, the next day with gold chains and expensive clothing.
Luckily, I was warned the first time I went to Fulton County Stadium by an old guy who took me under his wing. What Deion would do to the cub reporters was make up these wild stories and see how far they'd run with them. Everyone would gather round him to hear his latest tall tale.
Another great thing about the old Braves' games, don't know if they still do it, but it was free beer right after the final pitch in the "depressed box". It took everything I had to file the story first.
I watched Bo in double A, and Michael Jordan as well. I'd go to BP before the unwashed masses came in and I watched Jordan struggle, whereas Bo, I'll never forget him taking a bunch of balls to the opposite field and knew he was the real deal.
I also remember one ESPN highlight. A fly ball to the outfield. You see the ball going by itself, nothing else. Bo was playing up. All of a sudden, there he is and he races it down and catches it at the track. Never seen anything like that again.
Still, I can't really pick one or the other. They were both great.

Bo best athlete of my lifetime.

Bo Jackson and it's not even close.
MLB hall of famer George Brett thought Bo was a 500 homer guy and a cinch to the Hall of Fame if he'd have played baseball exclusively.
Likewise, NFL opponents thought if Bo had played football only and stayed healthy he would have been all-pro multiple times and been a first ballot inductee in Canton.
No other person that I know of has seriously been discussed as a hall of famer in two professional sports. Certainly not Deion Sanders,
Hence Bo >>>>> Deion

Dieon and Bo met on the football field once back in college. Of course it ended with Deion on his arse and Bo in the endzone.
Someone can find and link the youtube clip of Deion saying Bo was supperior if they want, but this is really not even a debate.
Deion was a lot smaller than Bo, less powerful in every way, less hand/eye cordination, less explosive ability, and maybe equaled him him speed - maybe.
Not even close.

I'm really surprised to see all the Deion people. I figured it would be near-unanimous for Bo. Especially on an SEC board.

Meh. Because it is a board with mostly LSU and Bama posters, you get the Aubie hate.
Do a national poll outside of SEC country and ask the greater athlete question and it is 80-85% Bo.

Well, Deion is in the NFL Hall of Fame. He definitely had the best career.
Athlete? Probably a wash. Both are genetic freaks and could have played more than two sports.
Oh, and I'm sure Deion has lost a lot of sleep getting run over by Bo Jackson

This seals it for me. Deion.
There are 1,000's of guys who should've gone to the hall of fame. For that... Bo is just another number.
There hasn't been another Deion Sanders out there on the field. There have been dozens of big, fast running backs equal or better than Bo.
And for those who keep harping on this point... Bo wasn't a very good tackler either (Deion played both sides of the ball).

Bo always gets talked up, but people forget how much of a freak Deion really was:

He was Primetime. He was Neon Deion. He was Deion Sanders and his ego was as big as his game. He scored touchdowns in 6 different ways during his NFL career as well as winning 2 Super Bowls playing for 5 teams (Atlanta, San Francisco, Dallas, Washington, and Baltimore). Deion also played baseball in the MLB for 9 years. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.

If you had an FSU logo beside your name, I would have said Bo. Seeing as you have an Auburn logo, Deion was clearly the superior athlete.
