The hype wagon has certainly hitched itself to Clowney.
Manti 2.0?
It is going to be pretty hard for the kid to live up to it.
Hes not going to have the help on the otherside. Expect more pulling guards to come after him.
He'll rack up some stats. But it wouldnt surprise me if he is still second or third fiddle in the SEC in sacks and tackles for a loss.

We must live in a world where everyone having to sell out to try and stop you, sometimes committing all of their resources, means you aren't being an incredible defender. My mistake.

A couple plays later we were in the endzone for the last score of the game, which we needed to win.
How about no?
The score was 22-21 Michigan when Clowney forced the fumble. The final score was 33-28 USCe.
The TD after the fumble wasn't even the last score for USCe, much less the last score of the game.

Wrong. Chaz Sutton will start opposite Clowney. As Devin Taylor's back, Sutton recorded 5.0 sacks;7 tackles for loss; 21 tackles and 2 forced fumbles.
Gamecocks reloading.

Since when is a pulling guard on a run play committing all resources? It happens on almost every run play. Hes going to see the pulling guard hit him on runs to his side. And more speed plays running away from him. His sack totals will depend on down and distance. The better the gamecocks do on 1st and 2nd down, the higher up the sec rankings he will be in sacks.

You lose more than Devin Taylor.
You lose 41% of your sack production to graduation (and that's counting Clowney coming back). That is 60% of your sack production by a player not named Clowney.
Experience matters. Clowney will still get his. But he's going to have his hands full in the run game because of all the talent you lose. Offenses will be able to be more aggressive with their blocking schemes to run right at him because the attrition.

That's an excellent point.
Sutton was tied for 14th in the conference last year in Sacks.
ESPN, SEC Sack Stats, 2012
He was 8th among DE's in the conference AND he was on the 2 Deep, not a starter and he's coming back next year.
If you think about how many starting DE's there are in the conference (14 teams * 2 DE's = 28 starting DE's...) Sutton had more sacks than over 70% of the Starting DE's in the conference. Of the SEC players coming back, he would rank 9th in Sacks and 6th among DE's.
Aldrick Fordham needs to be noted too, he was 12th in the conference and 6th among DE's for Sacks. He graduated though, but was a 2 Deep guy as well this past season.
So, one could argue that Chaz Sutton is better than 70% of the SEC DE starters, from a backup role. SEC's backup DE's were better than most of the starting DE's in the SEC last year, when you're looking at it objectively in terms production.
Gamecocks are just reloading.

lamest thread ever. How does this crap not get anchored? I think Freak can get more TFL's, but no defender will be better or as good.

Since Teo's fall off, Mosley would've been the top ILB in this year's draft, and he was a unanimous AA. He's easily the second best defensive player in the SEC in 2013, but I'm sure someone like Freak or Loston is better, right?
Now now, no need to get your jimmies all rustled

For what... 1 sack? no qb hurries? no other tackles for a loss? Actually... no other tackles.
