Frankly, I'm surprised....

This idea has been around for a long time.
The normal way of teaching math is not difficult, people just aren't willing to put in the effort (in general and I say his after years of work in mathematics and mathematics education). Also the normal math that is taught builds on itself in a way that allows advanced techniques to parallel the basics that we have been taught since high school.
And please think of how difficult it would be to switch the way they tech math. How are you going to get teachers who know how to teach this new style in all the schools and pay them to learn the new style and find enough who want to do it. Our schools are already lacking anywhere near the needed amount if math and science teachers.
It would be akin to deciding we wanted to teach English the way it is spoken in England and trying to switch to that style using only teachers from the United States.

Oh and we all know how fricking loaded those mathematicians are, ball out of control so they want to keep America years behind.
It would be so hard for Scholastic to print a new textbook no way they would go for every school in the country needing to buy a new version of a math textbook.

I don't disagree with the reasons you laid out. I'm sure that's the exact type of response Scott Flansburg receives when he challenges professionals at mathematics and education seminars.
This is the way we do it. It may be flawed. Inefficient. Harder to learn. But it is what it is. It would be too difficult a task.
And to think that the world of mathematics is governed by logic....

If you find the money, the teachers... go for it. But even if they did this, the gain from a more advanced mathematics standpoint would probably be minimal.
This does not solve the mysteries of math for everyone, numbers are such an amazingly small part of math. I don't know all of what he is trying to teach so I guess I can't say for sure but it would not be worth the effort other than the fact that maybe more people will gain an interest in math.

There is no "wrong" way to do math if the answer comes out the be the correct one in the end.
Also, being able to do math fast doesn't really mean shite in the grand scheme of things. A calculator is always going to be faster. And knowing how to effectively use on of those is far more useful.

A calculator is faster at that, but it can not solve all the problems. And learning math teaches you how to solve problems in ways learning a calculator never can. Anybody without some basic understanding in math will struggle when in a position of responsibility and having to deal with real world business situations.

Actually, Scott Flansburg has proven that he's faster than any human who operates a calculator. He can calculate in his mind faster than you can repeatedly push calculator buttons.

how will this help me count cards at a casino?

You edited the numbers so it equalled 666. I like your style. I would have made it equal some play on 69, cause that's how I roll.

Technically we all do. That is how the base 10 system works.

Cool stuff. I'm just going to keep using my $5 calculator.

What?!!! I edited the numbers to make it harder. I didn't realize that they add up to 666!
