Origination of "SEC" chant?

During the A&M-Georgia game, the broadcast crew made a reference to the Georgia final four team who beat North Carolina.

Apparently Sam Perkins made the comment "I have no idea what LEAGUE they are in". When Georgia went up big in that game, the chants of "SEC, SEC..." came booming down from the rafters.

Is that the origin of the chant?

I doubt it but that would be awesome if our basketball team started the tradition.

Pretty sure Florida originated after they waxed tOSU in 2006. If you recall, the tOSU-Michigan game was "the game of the century" that year, and people were even considering giving Michigan a rematch rather than putting an unimpressive Florida in the game.

Florida felt disrespected, beat tOSU down, and then let everyone know that their league is simply better.

That's the origin.

SWC teams chanted SEC-SEC-SEC at the end of football games towards us at the end of game our last year as a way of "rubbing in the loss".

We returned the favor chanting SEC-SEC-SEC in the SWC basketball tourney in Dallas as we raped them prison style on our way out of the conference.

That is where the chant started.

When Vanderbilt beat DePaul in OT in the 1965 Mideast Regional semifinal. Memorial Coliseum in Lexington just erupted with "SEC,SEC" as Vandy would now face then #1 Michigan to go to the Final Four in Portland.

The original beatdown of a heisman trophy winner and a #1 team

OSU 82 total yards
34-14 lead at halftime
Troy Smith 4/14 35 yards 0 TD's 1 INT
OSU 47 yards rushing on 23 attempts
UF 10/19 on 3rd down
Time of Possession: UF 40:48, OSU 19:12

Maybe the first time LSU had been able to pull the chant on someone in his life time, but the chant had been used for a while going back to the early 90s.

This isn't the first time for this thread either...

Good example of when the chant was used. . . . but not its origin.

My first memory of the SEC chant was the Florida/Ohio State national championship game in 2006. Remember, Herbstreit and ESPN was calling for a Michigan/Ohio State rematch for the national championship in 2006. It was a pretty legitimate use of the SEC chant considering the circumstances. I never particularly cared for the use of it afterwards though.
