Here's the rank

You guys that complain about getting the 11th ranked recruiting class remind me of kids upset because they didn't get the toys they wanted for Christmas.
Would you rather be Missouri? 38th?

UGA should roll out of bed and have at least a top 10 class EVERY year. There's 180 FBS prospects in this state (SC had 44 last year) and there's only 2 FBS (really 1 1/2) schools. That's a ratio of about 90 FBS players per school (highest in the country BY FAR)
We have way too many resources and way too much talent in this state NOT to be top 5 every year.

You could say the exact same thing about Texas and USC, look where they are. This class had the potential to be elite, an all timer..but what we actually DID get isn't too shabby. Yes I would've liked more, but it's not that bad.

NOBODY has close to the talent ratio I pointed out for UGA... NOT Texas,Not USC,NOT Ohio St,Not Florida and Bama's not even close.
Imagine if Ohio Stste was the lone FBS school in Ohio or shared it with a nerdy Tech school. And we produce more talent than the state of Ohio.
Once again, should be a no-brainer to finish in the top 5 every year.

It's the way you look at it. We may be 11th, but we're 6th in the SEC behind the likes of Texas A&M and Ole Miss. You have to be kidding me that Ole Miss gets 3 of the top 20 kids to commit after going 7-6 and really have nothing to offer. Georgia is 5 yards away from a national championship and we miss on about 5-6 top recruits...from the state of Georgia. Yes, we may have a good class, but it's blatantly obvious that we just didn't finish on the recruiting trail. How do you let these locks for months now up and decide to switch favorites overnight to OLE MISS?!
That is why everyone is upset about this class. It wasn't like UGA missed on a couple of high recruits and still got some of the best, but we missed on a lot of high recruits and got stuck with the rest. It makes me feel like Tech and the rest of the SEC is UGA.

We'll just agree to disagree then. This year alone, we had a bumper crop in state, but on average FL, TX, and CA have many, many more top prospects than GA. And if you want to go simply by per capita, LA has us beat there.

You and other people are for some reason hellbent on thinking that because we share the state with a loser that we have no competition. Do you not realize that UT, AU, Bama, UF, FSU, SC, and Clemson are ALL bigger threats to us in state than tech? That's 7 schools that we border with that are major threats for our recruits, and every damn one of them is a "big" name school. 5 of those 7 are doing pretty well right now and are riding positive momentum.
Saying we should finish top 5 ONLY because we have no in state competition is simply ignorant.

OSU isn't competing with Cincinnati, Kent State, Toledo, Akron, Ohio U, Miami U, or Bowling Green for recruits. They get the pick of the litter in the state, Michigan gets the next best, and Cincy and the MAC schools get the leftovers. With Penn State on sanctions, OSU also has talent-rich Western PA basically to themselves.

Dude, I SAID ratio! Please read again...we have 90 FBS prospects per SCHOOL. Florida has about a 40 to 1 ratio Texas 30/1 about 15 to 1 in Alabama
Posted on 2/7/13 at 1:16 pm to VADawg
Check out the number of MAC players in the NFL.There are still 7 other FBS schools in state and I gaurantee there are more thana few that OSU\missed out on that went to other schools.
Really? There's more talent within an hour and half drive of our campus than western PA...the area doesn't produce near the amount of players it used to. I would bet you that Dekalb and Gwinnett counties ALONE produce close to the amount of FBS prospects in western PA.

Agree and based on data not fiction, that's just what it takes to consistently compete for a NC.

Sigh. All of that doesn't mean jack shite when we have FIVE major, big time schools within a 4/5 hour drive from campus. And UF and FSU aren't much further than that. It doesn't mean a damn thing that they aren't in the state of GA, they still recruit GA.

Middle of the pack in the SEC...6th place in conference.

Using that logic we should be cherry picking SC and Bama for their top talent. Only 4 to 5 hours away...Point is, there's an issue if we can't recruit big time prospects that are an 1 1/2 hour drive from our campus (sometimes 45 mins)

No, that logic doesn't carry over. It doesn't apply to the state of AL because, obviously, that's where bama is. The best, hottest, most successful coach and school in America. In addition, AL doesn't really have many top notch prospects year in and year out. And Richt has pulled some good ones for us from there (Chester Adams, Mark Beard, Ben Jones, etc).
As for SC, we actually do get a good bit of talent from there. I think there were 3 or 4 years in a row where we pulled their "Mr. Football" from SC. We've gotten AJ Green, Prince Miller, CJ Byrd, Antavious Coates, Kwame Geathers, etc. from SC who were all 4 and 5 star guys at the time.

What you are still failing to realize is twofold. First, GA has MUCH more talent on a yearly basis than AL or SC, so obviously there will be more people that UGA doesn't get. Second, SC has to deal with mostly UGA and Clemson for poaching their state. We have to deal with 7 other schools.

Another point you're not getting is that Atlanta ain't what it used to be when you or I were growing up (I'm assuming you're not in high school). Even 10 years ago, people grew up wanting to go to UGA. Now it's all yankee transplants, foreigners, and people who just plain ol don't GAS much anymore. People say "Well how could UGA let nkemdiche go!!??" when in reality there isn't a single solitary thing we could've done to get him. His parent here is frickin African, what the hell do they know or care about UGA? His brother went to ole miss, his HS coach played for bama, and his HS coach's best bud coaches at clemson. I got news for ya, sometimes it doesn't matter how much effort you put into a kid, they just flat out don't wanna go to your school.
And btw, Richt's first 7/8ish years here, we cleaned up in GA. We really did put up the proverbial fence around GA. However, 3 things changed.
1. The past year or so, definitely this year and next year included, has seen a rise in elite players in GA. Used to be there'd be a 5* or 2 in GA and then a bunch of 4* guys. Now we're seeing a handful of 5* guys. This expression sucks, but the truth is you can't get 'em all, especially considering the demographics I said above.
2. We had some down years. The 08-10 seaons really hurt, especially those last 2. When you have 2 sraight down seaosons, that's an eternity in the recruiting world. We were hot shite from 02-07, but all that came undone when we went 6-7.
3. Other teams got a lot better. It was easy to clean up in GA when we were awesome and our rivals were down. Now, we're still pretty damn good, however, SC, Bama, Clemson, and FSU are all much better than they were. UT and AU are down somewhat, and UF is about the same, but we went from a moderate level of competition with other schools to off the charts. Not to mention schools like Vandy and UK that are recruiting better than they EVER have in their history, and ole miss now starting to blantantly cheat.
My point is, it's really easy to say "well there's x amount of elite guys within an hour of Athens. There's no reason not to get all of them and if we don't then our coaches suck". The reality is that that simply isn't feasible, unless you're in another stratosphere like bama is right now.

Do you really think the so-called experts know the difference between a #5 recruiting class and a #11 recruiting class.
Remember these are 17-18 year old kids who have never played a down of college ball. (Not counting JC players.)

ATL has a big airport, a ton of high schools within a 90 minute drive, and lots of kids with parents from somewhere else. It comes down to logistics. You can see and recruit a lot of kids in ATL if you are a coach. Florida is similar. Look at all the talent that goes out of state there and they have 3 big programs. Every SEc schools recruits ATL... Hard... UGA is a great brand, but every kid has his own button and loyalty to a state school that your parents did not go to or grow up around is not going to happen to all...
Frankly, I hope the lid comes off it one day... Surprised it has not already... It is almost a joke...

Not ignorant at all to think we should get 1st crack at kids because we are the in house state school and (at most) an hour and half away.
Wonder if you asked Saban or ANY other big time coach which situation they'd wanna be in?How bout Spurrier? How bout Mahlzan? They trade places in a freakin heartbeat to have the kind of built in advantages UGA has with this state.

Dude, I grew up here and my parents were transplants as were most my friends.(Msss,NJ,NY,Ohio etc) Guess what?I'd say 70% either went to UGA or became Dawg fans. This was 25 years ago.I have Nieces and Nephews that go to Walton,Parkview and Roswell HS's (many transplants at all those schools)and the majority of kids at those HS either want to go to UGA or are Dawg fans. Bama and the Barn are usually the 2nd and 3 rd choices for their friends when it comes to their college. choices
