No kidding. If they played Monopoly they would demand to be given Boardwalk and Park Place at the outset of the game.

True. They also have good potential in football. I'm a bit older so I remember them being pretty good in the 80s and 90s.

add Hollins and Sweet Briar....
1. brings in the VA market
2. doesn't hurt football scheduling
3. makes SEC equestrian invincible
4. more opportunity for BJs on the weekends
5. we can go work for their fathers company, so who cares if our school isn't AAU.

That 4 team pod thing is crazy and would be bitched about forever.
It is the next logical (if not unavoidable) step when you have the development of megaconferences.
This would allow a four team, two game conference playoff for the conference championship (which will make money just like the CCG introduced in 1992).
The frequency with which some teams play each other will be decreased - but with 16 teams, 4 pods, 1 permanent out of division opponent, you would still have four rotating out of division games per year and that would allow you to get through the rotating 11 teams within six years (very nearly the same timeline we saw with a 12 team sec)

4 team pods would be straight.

I don't think the 4 team pod thing is going to happen. I expect a 9 game conference schedule.

I'd be furious if LSU pod was ATM, Arky and Mizzu.

Prepare to be very angry. That would be the most likely makeup of a SEC West Pod.

Missouri is the one that doesn't make any fricking sense. Ole Miss is the closest thing to a historical rival and would balance the division better. If all the other teams are getting their single most important traditional rival every year then Ole Miss and LSU should as well:
This solution:
NW:
Alabama (Tenn)
Auburn (UGA)
Missouri (Arkansas)
MSU (Ole Miss)
SW:
LSU (Florida)
A&M (USC)
Arkansas (Missouri)
Ole Miss (MSU)
NE:
Tennessee (Alabama)
Va Tech (A&M)
NC (USC)
Vanderbilt (KY)
SE:
Florida (LSU)
UGA (Auburn)
USC (NC)
Kentucky (Vandy)
Gives these teams their number one rivalry of interest every year and in most cases their top 2-3
Bama - Auburn, Tenn
Auburn - UGA, Bama
Arkansas - LSU, A&M, Missouri
Florida - UGA, LSU, USC
UGA - Auburn, Florida
LSU - Ole Miss, Arky, Florida
Missouri - Arkansas
Ole Miss - LSU, MSU
USC - UGA, Fla
Tenn - Bama, Vandy
A&M - LSU, Arkansas
LSU playing in MS, TX, and Arkansas makes sense - I'm not asking for every historical rivalry to be maintained but the LSU/Ole Miss thing is easy to keep and very meaningful to the older generation. There is no good reason not to keep it.

I hope so, that would be funny if we dropped FSU.

Even if Ole Miss is not in our pod we will never not play them. Would not happen. They would have to be part of a cross divisional opponent game or something.

I hope not
People forget the SEC used to play as few as 5-6 in conference games before they expanded to 12 teams and an 8 game schedule.
If they do 4 team pods with a single out of division opponent (and four rotating opponents) that's already 8 games before a potential two more SEC playoff games for the division winners to play each other.
There are disadvantages to playing more conference games as well because it:
1) depresses the win totals (hurting the middle tier programs who want to be bowl eligible and the elite programs who want to run the table for a NC)
2) reduces the number of interesting OOC matchups
3) reduces the number of home games for schools in the regular season (reducing home ticket gates)
If the SEC were to extract significantly more money from networks like ESPN, CBS, or a new SEC network specifically because of the increased number of conference games I'd have to withdraw my third objection.

I hope you're just spouting an opinion because that would be very sad to people who care about traditional rivalries. There's no reason that one can't be maintained - it just makes sense for LSU and Ole Miss to play every year.
I think LSU and Ole Miss have played every year since 1944 - that should mean something to everyone shouldn't it?

Slive has stated this a few times...TV markets. A pod system wouldn't be bad, then have two best records for ATL, with all the appropriate tie breakers.

And if pods, put UA/AU/UGA/UT in same one...call it the rivalry pod. LSU/Mizzou/Arky/A&M...western pod..
Posted on 1/22/13 at 12:58 pm to JDM1992
The pods could just be for scheduling...still just take top 2 records for ATL.
