@Aggie_Sports: Interesting note: W/ Freeze's pay bump to $2 million, Kevin Sumlin is tied w/ Mark Stoops, Freeze for lowest SEC salary.

We have been burned the last few times giving raises/extensions. In this case though, I would back paying the man more.

He will be paid. Not worried... No way our administration can frick this up. If we let Summy go it'd be like 2002 all over again (firing the legendary RC Cola).

He's at $2.4 now---same as Muschamp.

But yes, we need to pay him. Yesterday. I'm confident he'll be at $3.5M by next season.

He'll get his raise after he gives us a crystal football next year. Even if he doesn't, 10 wins gets him a giant raise next year.

We've been burned like a motherfricker on raises and extensions. My guess is that when offers start coming in, the admin will pony up the dough, but we are VERY gun shy about giving raises now. We just got out of the salary-paying hell we've been in for the last 10 years.

He will get paid and paid well. Sumlin's current deal was done giving him a nice raise from UH but with the AD dealing with the buyout from the Big 12 and the buyout from Sherman's contract. Now we are rolling in cash and are about to invest $450 mill or so on a new stadium so there is no doubt we are going to lock up our prized asset coach.

The former AD was horrible about this stuff. With both Fran and Sherman he went to them without prompting after both had slow starts but built up to a 9 win season and gave them long guaranteed contracts. The amount per year is fine, it is just giving them a 5 year guaranteed deal with less than stellar results that was crazy. Fran's deal actually had an auto renew clause so every year it rolled over to a new 5 year deal.

Sumlin has always said A&M was his dream job, he absolutely loved it when he coached here before and tried hard to get the job when Sherman was hired. He's not going anywhere so long as A&M doesn't disrespect him which simply isn't going to happen. Our old leadership that liked to penny pinch is gone, the folks in charge now see football as a huge priority in terms of the image of the school. My guess is they bump Sumlin to the mid 3's or even 4 with a lot of incentives and then continue to bump him as he performs. I also think they will drop some big coin on the other coaches so they can't be bought and only leave for a HC gig or a position coach moving to a Coordinator role at a major program.
