I have noticed in a couple of threads on Bowl predictions many posters have picked Mississippi state to lose to Northwestern in the Gator Bowl this New Years Day in Jacksonville. When asked why, posters look at the OM game which is a big rivalry game and you can't always look at scores from those types of games.

Northwestern is from the Big 10, and other than Arkansas losing in the Sugar Bowl to good Ohio State team, who was the last SEC team to lose to a big 10 team in a Bowl game.

Also Northwestern is a spread running team which runs 75% of the plays they run. With 5 weeks to prepare for them there is no doubt in my mind our defense will be ready to stop them like we did to Michigan and Denard Robinson 2 years ago.

I also don't believe Northwestern has the athletes on defense to stop our offense.

Mississippi State 34
Northwestern 21

Maybe so but football fans who have bowl pickums or have gambled on this game will be watching or flipping back and forth.

I think it's just that people say that they may be the most likely SEC team to lose, not saying that they think they WILL lose. They could lose IMHO, but I think they will win. That make any sense?

It really does Drew, but all I think that people see with Northwestern is their 9-3 record. They have a good team but I feel they will struggle vs SEC athletes like all big 10 teams do.

I'm willing to bet you can't name a player on Northwestern's team.

MSmoo lost to Nebraska by 1, Michigan by 7, and Penn St. by 11. Should be a very close game.

NW 29 - MSU 27... This guy has had the MSU scores pegged all year, pretty amazing how close he's been...

Northwestern is a decent team, MSU lost to all the good teams on their schedule, and if you think the SEC is going to dominate but you think we'll lose at least one bowl game, this is a good one to pick, because it's pretty up in the air.

Good luck, it should be a good game.

Michigan State over Georgia in last year's Outback Bowl.

LSU lost to Penn State in the Cap One bowl in 2010.

Auburn struggled and was lucky to beat some shite program named Northwestern in some bowl a couple years ago all their fans was saying it was going to be a blow out because they were a spread running team that runs the ball 75% of the time and their team had 5 weeks to prepare for them and there was no doubt an offensive genius like Chizik would have the team ready to play...

IMO surprised we're still a 1 pt favorite. We haven't even been competitive in 3 of our last 5 games. Depends on what State team shows up.

I take it Russell's ankle injury at the end of the Egg Bowl wasn't too serious.

Yet you still predict giving up 3 TD's?

Basic ankle sprain we've all had before. He got treatment and has been practicing and is good to go next week.
