In Melvin Watkins first season as head coach, he had fewer losses (15) and as many conference wins (5) as Billy Kennedy.

Billy Gillispie had 26 total losses in 3 seasons as A&M's head coach. Kennedy only needs 5 more losses to match that.

Mark Turgeon had 40 total losses in 4 seasons as A&M's head coach. Kennedy only needs 21 more to catch that (and may catch it this season).

Also, Melvin Watkins upset the #10 team in the country his first year (Oklahoma State coached by Eddie Sutton). He beat t.u. in Austin in his third year.

Billy Kennedy has no signature wins, but just as many, if not more signature losses.

I'm starting to get the impression that you don't particularly care for Coach Kennedy.

I'm sure he's a nice guy...but the man earns almost as much as Kevin Sumlin. You'd figure by year two he'd start earning that salary instead of stealing from the athletic department.

Just got off the phone with Melvin Watkins. He will pass on the coveted "I have no clue but I will take the money" award when he arrives on January 9th.

$bill we be on hand to pass on the trophy.

Plenty of good seats available at Reed.

January 9th...one of the happiest days in Melvin Watkins' life as his curse finally ends.

Also on that night, it will be officially called the "Billy Kennedy curse".

And if the Aggies win that night, what will you say?

Not going to happen.

Got outrebounded by HOUSTON BAPTIST.

Yes, we won the game by 8 points, but only one A&M starter had a rebound (Turner with 7).

OK. I was wrong. I was very wrong. I apologize to Coach Kennedy, the team, all students, former students and other fans for my lack of knowledge of basketball.

I am completely ignorant of basketball and I have suspended my self from all basketball comments for the rest of the year. (this includes the rant and Texags.)

Forgive me.

The Melvin Watkins curse doesn't all of a sudden make Kennedy a great coach. That's like Mike Sherman beating Tech on the road in 2009, then losing to Colorado on the road 2 weeks later.

And losses to Rice and Southern with inconsistent talent and a young team don't all of a sudden define him as a bad coach.

Turgeon and Gillispie both had multiple losses to Texas Tech teams that would get slaughtered by that Southern team. Not to mention Turgeon losing to mediocre Tulsa and BC teams.

Face it, coaches sometimes lose to teams they shouldn't. It happens, get over it.

Are you serious?

The three times Gillispie lost to Texas Tech, not only were they coached by BOB KNIGHT and made the tournament both in 2005, and 2007, but the 2007 version of Tech beat KANSAS that year.

The ONE time that Mark Turgeon lost to Tech was when Mike Singletary had greatest single game performance in Big 12 history.

-Both in Neutral Site tournaments (Tulsa in Corpus, Boston College in ORLANDO)

-Both would have murdered Southern

I award you no points and God will not have mercy on your soul.

Let's recap the losses that both coaches had (* = Tournament teams that season):

You are right ... BCG and Turgeon were Gods among men that never lost a game they shouldn't have. Tulsa and BC were world beaters.

Turgeon also recruited only NBA level talent and left our team in a better position than when he took over.

Southern doesn't have the budget, resources, or talent level to beat programs like A&M ON THE ROAD...unless A&M has a Watkins or a Kennedy as their head coach.

They started 3 Sr, 1 Jr and 1 So; only one of which is in his first year in the program.

We are starting 1 or 2 Freshmen, 1 JUCO JR transfer, 1 SR, 1 JR and a So who was injured all last year.

That is 1 out of 5 first teamers that is in their first year and a good amount of Sr leadership.

We have 3 of 6 (including Caruso and Harris as starters) which are in their first year and a 4th which is coming off a season ending injury last year and absolutely no "senior leadership" cause Ray is anything but a leader at this point.

Sr leadership and continuity within a team and a coaching staff. Their HC is in his second (?) year but he has been at the school for 8.

The familiarity, continuity, and maturity can make a huge difference. You see "cinderella stories" all the time with that formula.

We need a new coach at the end of this year.

Period.
