Based on records this year we have:
Bama
Georgia
Florida
LSU
A&M
South Carolina
Then there's Vandy!!! Vandy almost beat Florida and South Carolina this year.
Then the rest:
Ole Miss
Miss State
Missouri
Tennessee
Arkansas
Auburn
Kentucky
Can Vandy moved ahead of South Carolina next year into #6?

WOW!
Shocking when you look at it. That Vandy coach has done good work up there.

Yup they certainly are.
I don't think they'll get past USCe next year. They have a better chance at getting past UGA in a rebuilding year, tbh, but I don't think they'll have nearly the talent to get it done. They lose a lot this offseason, iirc

vandy will fall back some in 2013... losing their QB and best RB. There's no doubt Franklin is committed to VU... the real challange will be holding onto staff members when more established programs come calling.
I could see Vanderbilt taking a similar path as TCU... both are small private schools in large metro areas... both had roughly a half century run of futility. TCU found the right guy in Gary Patterson who was able to win games and improve fan support and facilities along the way... I'm very skeptical of VU ability to have the fan support needed to support a consistent winner...
But there's no time better than now... with UT down, it's now or never for vandy football.

Vandy almost beat Florida this year?
Also, they didn't beat a single team with a winning record if my memory serves me correctly.
Good on Franklin though.

Vandy did beat South Carolina this year before the refs gave it to Spurrier so I will put them at 6.5.

Can't argue with that. The OP was wrong about the UF game though.

They need to beat one of UGA, Florida, or USCe to be taken seriously

Correct, but they did beat 6-6 Ole Miss.

True. But they only played four such teams, all currently ranked in the top 25 and three of the four are ranked in the top 10. The real story is that, unlike most years, Vandy didn't lose to anyone with a mediocre record...

I think this is the key at Vandy. If they could so this each year and knock off a "big 6" each season that's huge for them.
But I will wait to see what happens without Rodgers and Stacy.

It's debatable! Vandy pulled to within 7 points of Florida twice during the 4th quarter. They got their standard bad calls that always go to Florida, Bama, UGA when they play them. Vandy should have put up 14 points in the first half. The game was much closer than the 31-17 score indicates. Vanderbilt had 23 first downs to Florida's 17! Florida got a late score to win by 14.

Stacy will be missed. You could argue that Rodgers cost us as many games as he won. Next year will be the first year we will feel the effects of Franklins successful recruiting. I have been following Vandy football for over 40 years. Not pretty. Franklin is different. This is not a fluke. Yes I have "drunk the koolaid" but people who don't follow and just read the scores will be pleasantly/unpleasantly surprised in the coming years. Currently we are currently 14th on Rivals.

Ugh. So did Vandy and a late FG.
Cake and eat I suppose.
Driskel also had a 70 yard TD run on first down. There were other plays that similarly affected the number of first downs.
What did the cheating refs do this time?

Key for VU's 2013 season will be QB play. Contenders are:
Austyn Carta-Samuels RS Sr. QB, former Player of the Year in the Mountain West at Wyoming.
Patton Robinette RS Fr. was ranked the #21 Pro Style QB nationally in the 2012 class
Johnathon McCrary True Fr. 4* R250 currently #8 Dual Threat QB, will be enrolling in January
Chad Kanoff 3* 5.6 PS QB True Fr. vastly underrated IMO, tall kid 6'4 from Cali, really accurate, improving arm strength threw for over 3,500 yds and 40 TDs this season. Reminds me a lot of Tyler Bray (minus the back tat) before Bray's rating blew up late in that recruiting cycle.
VU's D will be seriously tough next year returning 17 of the top 22 players on D, including 8 starters.

In the order you describe, yes Vandy is next best.

My hunch is that he's the one Franklin turns to next season. ACS may get the nod out of the game though.
