everything considered along with this latest troll job on LSU, the mans legit.

Might be giving long to much credit here, but it sure as hell seems like it was a warning shot across the bow of the lsu ship.

the man can strategize and the strategic ramifications from that warning shot are crazy

jeff long heres to you

Or - we just became the program that offered to make a moron the highest paid coach in college football, only to be turned down very publicly.

That's an embarrassment.

Everybody in Arkansas laughed at it, while everyone in Louisiana was like "OH MY GOD!!"

Long, Jones and Miles Sexton'd LSU.

Unfortunately, people in the know don't control national airwaves. We don't recruit people in the know. People in the know aren't the parents of the kids we're recruiting.

It makes us look bad that this got out, ESPECIALLY if our hire ends up being underwhelming.

"Man, Arkansas offered Miles $5.5MM/Yr and he still said no...now they're having to go after Malzahn? Those guys are desperate!"

i don't see it that way... i think it's like firing a shot to let everybody know what we are willing to to do to get a good coach. that we are so serious we'll throw money at a conference rival's coach. just my opinion. i don't think anybody would think we'd really think we'd get les from lsu

It has raised eyebrows across the country, shows how much the job is worth to us, how much we are willing to spend.

Great move by Jeff Long, and Oh by the way, we made a fellow SEC West school open up the check book to keep a coach we didn't want in the first place...

That makes no sense to me. Why does everyone need to know that? The only people that need to know that are Jeff Long, prospective coaches, and their agents. If he fails with 1, he moves down the list. Publicly failing just makes the school look unattractive. I'd rather get shot down quietly than publicly any day.

it's all the same. Publicly or quietly the people who matter will always know. What this does good for us far outweighs the bad.

LSU has confirmed a raise and an extension for Les Miles. Arkansas has not confirmed if it will continue to help other SEC coaches get them

it's created buzz, i think it's a win win, i don't think getting turned down publicly by les is a bad thing, if we'd been turned down by Freeze or mullins maybe but nobody expects les to leave his honey hole. this just lets the country know we are going big.

i do some pr work and any publicity is good publicity sometimes.

What good? "Oh, now people know we're serious!"

The people who actually matter (the ones getting offered) were going to find out anyway. You think Long's plan is to offer Miles $5.5MM/yr and just wait for people to call us?

Someone explain to me how this makes us look good, aside from "haha - we trolled LSU into paying more for Miles."

We get no publicity because we are not going to a bowl, so why not root our name into LSU and aTm? They have been fricking with us over thanksgiving weekend game and one has had the best season in forever and the other is still hoping for a BCS bowl, so, the opportunity is there to steal their limelight and have our name a hot topic at their pressers and mentioned along side them for a while now...

So ESPNews showed Les' press conference, all they showed was him addressing the Arkansas job, once he didn't want to talk about it anymore, they cut away.

Tennessee and Auburn is not getting this kind of coverage on ESPN.

Well frick it, then, guys. Why not offer Nick Saban? Press conference at 8pm tonight with a public offer to Saint Nicky. Talk about PR! 10 yrs at $8MM/yr!

When he says no, we'll just hold another presser for Chip Kelly. And so on.

Getting publicly turned down, when the rumored numbers are historic, is embarrassing, especially when you're talking about a coach most consider to be a fricking joke.

no one said it makes us ;look good. but that's your problem; you are more concerned about looking good on ESPN through the coaching search than you are getting your guy

1. we made lsu spend more money on a coach. that's money they can't do other shite with now.

2. we bought time and created a legit smoke and mirror

long understands something about coaching searches that i don't think 95% of AD's understand

there are going to be rumors and tidbits out there, regardless if you want them or not. If that is the case, i would rather be the ones that i want to beo ut there, not the ones out there that could cause us not to get the coach we want by blowing our cover.

in other words, which looks wrose.. nogt getting les miles and watching lsu give an exenstion to a coach we almost beat with the worst team we have put on the hill in 20 years, or not getting the coach we really really wanted becuase his name got leaked and the other schools had too much time to reach and convince him to chagne his mind

long is playing to win. most of of our fans just want to look good going around the clubhouse turn.
