Getting publicly turned down,

Miles said the talks were never serious, more about recommendations, he and Long spent time together @ Michigan.

ADs talk to coaches all the time about recommendations.

Les made it appear that he was due for a new contract and raise, which he hasn't had a raise since 07.

Numbers came from sports by brooks. Miles said it never got to that point, talks were never serious.

Well frick it, then, guys. Why not offer Nick Saban? Press conference at 8pm tonight with a public offer to Saint Nicky. Talk about PR! 10 yrs at $8MM/yr!

that would be to unrealistic

in all seriousness, i don't think getting turned down my les miles in conference in our division is a loss publicity wise. but i do think this is a one time deal we can't be offering and getting turned down it will be a mess.

BTW: If Miles wanted to look really bad on Arkansas' part, he could have, he was nothing but complimentary of Arkansas even complimented the team on how hard the players played in the game and how they could have gave up considering how tough of a season they had...

I think Les is a moron but I found nothing about this whole thing embarrassing at all- I'm confused as to why you think it's such a big deal??? According to Les' own comments we didn't offer him what was rumored and it didn't get past just friendly talks-- > if I read that correctly.

I personally think whoever came up with the Patterson and him having the same agent and this being a smoke screen was a genius. It's sounding more plausible all the time.

I believe that being turned down during a coaching search is the same as getting shot down by a girl at the bar. Basically we walked up to one of the hottest girls at the bar standing next to her big boyfriend bought her a drink and started talking to her.

It's not a bad thing at the bar and it's not a bad thing in a coaching search.

My problem is that for 24 hours ESPN and all of the major networks have blasted, "Arkansas offers Les Miles $5.5MM/yr contract" basically. Now, they'll come back with, "Miles turns down Arkansas and gets extension at $4MM and will stay at LSU."

That makes us look really unattractive to the casual observer, not to mention woefully incompetent for allowing even the appearance of his consideration to run rampant for so long.

But whatever.

HAHAHAHAHA! Jeff Long trolljob! Haha! We's allsome! Sail on! Hahahaha!

It also not like we went down to Conway and offered Conque (or however you spell it, who cares) 5 mil to make sure we didn't have to go through the embarrassment of being turned down not even once.

I think Gundy is the man. The more i think about this the more i am almost sure of it. it makes too much sense

The reason for all the smoke IMHO is beucse it's not one of those things that will bode well for us if Pickens and company have an entrie weekend to mettle over keeping him or not. if they wanted him he isn't going anywhere they can pay up.

but if just gets on a plane and says frick you buddy than that' the ball game.

i think long is doing ay and everything to keep attention off gundy until their last game.

imo to the casual observer, les would be crazy to leave that job b/c of the fertile recruiting grounds he's on and nobody can blame us for at least offering, no harm done.

Miles said it never got serious, because he didn't want it to because he would have had to seriously consider it and he didn't want to to do that.

Summary.

Again he was nothing but complimentary about the whole situation as has been ESPN.

The ESPN commentators have said it shows Arkansas is serious about finding a head coach, yadda yadda yadda and mentioned why Les wouldn't leave. Not laughing at Arkansas and making fun of us for trying.

This is going well, it isn't in the least an embarrassing situation.

wow. go have a case of beer. bottle of whiskey. anything...calm that shite down.

It does not embarrass us. AT all. any dip shite that follows college football knows this is how it works with coaches and raises. Who is to say that Long wasn't on board with this to help his pal out?

step away from that ledge.

the thing about a good troll job is it has to be believable...

of the two powers currently in place in the SEC west, LSU was was the better target. might as well maximize our coaching search by taking a shot at one of our rivals in the conference and make them make unwanted adjustments

How the frick is that not a bad thing? Really? That's how your brain works? "There's a hot chick over there with her big boyfriend...challenge accepted! What could possibly go wrong!"

I'm fine being turned down, very publicly, by a top-notch coach. It's embarrassing to get turned down by Les f'ing Miles, the idiot savant, for an extra $1.5MM/yr over what he makes in death trap valley. Diminishes the value of our brand. If this was all just a ploy to help him get extra money, float out a lower amount. $4.5MM/yr. Something like that. At least then it's not as embarrassing.

JUST so we're clear - anytime someone doesn't agree with you and/or Jeff Long, they're crying? Simpleton.
