I saw ESPN's SEC Blog Twitter Account in the middle of the 2nd half...

Tweeting that the Alabama staff had expressed to them at some point in the period between Fall camp and this game (didn't specify when) that their Secondary was the more vulnerable part of the defense.

I just don't see Georgia-and especially not UF-having what it takes to beat this team through the air. For that matter, I see only the Ducks of Oregon as being able to put a dent into this defense as it stands now.

But do the Bama Fans here have any concern regarding the way the Secondary executed against what was heretofore a rather pedestrian-if not outright sub-par-LSU passing game Saturday?

Mettenberger made some fine throws. It felt like Garcia and usce from 2010 when they just made clutch play after clutch play especially on third down.

LSU kept us in our base 4-3. Oregon against our nickel with CJ Mosley on the field will also struggle. LSU is the only team I think could force Alabama into playing with so many in the box as they did. Everyone else is gonna get a 5-6 man front with a safety/lb hybrid watching the run.

Our secondary is hit or miss. Saturday night we were way off and Mett took advantage of it. I think that the only team capable of beating Alabama was LSU. Georgia is not even in the same universe as LSU, but stranger things have happened.

We still have a tough test against A&M next, I'm going to worry about that.

1. The secondary was always a bit of a concern for me. I trusted milliner and Lester but the rest was very unproven. 2. LSUs offense and the QB especially played easily the best game they have all year. The bye clearly helped as some of our guys said y'all showed stuff they hadn't seen before.

I'll be honest and say that I'm more than a little nervous about the game against TAMU this Saturday.

They might carve us up after watching Mettenburger do it.

Oregon has a tremendous offense, but it's based largely on their running game. Their passing attack is average.

I think this is why a lot of Bama fans felt let down that Tyler didnt play and Johnelle tanked the season prior to our game early in the year.

The Bama fans on here at least, knew that the secondary may be their weakest link and they talked as if they wanted to see it tested.

So it is no surprise that the Bama coaching staff may have thought the same. It really isnt Bama's fault that their secondary had not been tested this season.

This is just something else we can blame on Johnelle if you all are cool with it

Our secondary is our weakest link, specifically, our lack of depth at CB which is causing us to play safeties in place of CB's in some packages. And, I'm not that high on some of those safeties.

That said, our weakest link is still better than 90% of other teams' secondaries.

And, don't take away from what LSU did. If your offensive line hadn't held up so well, the rushers would have gotten to the the QB before he could pick on those guys. And Mett threw the ball well and made good decisions.

A lot of Bama fans already realized that the secondary was a little shaky this year (relatively speaking, they are still pretty good, but not really elite in coverage skills). What happened Saturday night was a combination of Mettenberger playing a hell of a game (did the light come on for good or was this one of those singular games QBs have sometimes ala Garcia against Bama in 2010?) and also Alabama's secondary showing that it has some issues.

It's not like Alabama's defense, even the pass defense, is bad. They certainly bent on Saturday but did not break in a hostile environment with very little help from the Bama offense in the second half. They were on the field all night and still only gave up 17 points. If that is an off night for the defense, then I'll take it. A lot of teams would absolutely kill for their defense to only give up 17 on the road in a game like that when the opposing QB is definitely on his game.

They are not one of the GOAT defenses like last year, but they are still among the best if not the best in the country again.

It's hard to find any faults with Bama. But I do think they blitzed too much. It wasn't working and Mett was doing a great job finding one on one coverages. You are asking a lot of your secondary to cover WRs one on one all game. Gotta hand it to LSU though, great playcalling with a balanced offensive attack, and the pass protection, which was a concern going into the game, really did well against the Bama pass rush.

Alabama's secondary is good and was in good position for most of the night. The reason that LSU had success was that Mett was putting the ball in the exact right spot. That touchdown pass could not have been defended.

No other quarterback will do that to us this year. Not even Murray.
